GQ Rear Flex

Ok.....did some testing in the GQ on the weekend, and I don't think there is enough flex in the rear.

The thing has 6" lift with 35s, and when one tyre was fully flexed into the guard the top of the opposite tyre was a touch above level with the quarter panel but the tyre was 2 foot off the ground.....I think I have a pic and will try to post.

So the question...will a body lift help??? is it shocks fully extended???

Also to the front end.....flex is shite, any cheap fixs it has wizzard droped brackets, and would expect more up travel + is there a way to decreas the angle of the front panhard and steering dampner? it seems the angle is causing it to sort of bump steer across corragations and concentrated bumps.

Thanks

Front flex on mine also is shite with 5 springs and 1.5 blocks, drop brackets helped very slightly, stiff springs also amplifying the problem...

just see where on the side tucked up where its hitting, im guessing about 4 inches or so above chassis, i gave mine a little bit of a love bight with a mallet to round these off.....

and swaybars?

Bang on with the rubbing...... I want to do the chop, so I am still contemplating the body lift or wait till the back disapears. I f I do then I only need a few blocks and much easier to do.....37s hehehe

Also shocks are rancho set on soft springs are dobinsons

Check to make sure your front driveshaft isn't hitting on the gearbox crossmember...
This will stop the axle from moving any further once it touches...

by not not
Just a thought is your front end bush,s rubber or nolathan ?
i had nolathans then switched back to rubber and it traveled a lot easier

Not sure on that one, any idea what I can doe to check, ie colour or something.

It just seems as if the front should have more travel noth ways.

The rear has good travel up as it scrubs, but I reckon should have better down travel, but am not sure whether this is due to the opposite side scrubing???

You asked for a cheap improvement in the front, remove the front bolt from the left radius arm, this negates the bushes from the bind situation.
Take the bolt from the left so the torque at the diff head is held without twisting through the housing.I have trialed this on a GQ for 8 months.
Just test drive it down the road and the increased body roll will show you how much freer the front is.
Something I haven't tried but have thought about is removing one rear arm as a 4 link is more inclined to bind and there could be a win there.

I dont believe Im reading this!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Undo shocks, then flex it up again . That will show you, also if sway bars are late model fit early or remove.
Springs may be too stiff as well.

Come on Baz!! they do the same to the front of Rangies and the rear of Pajeros
The GQ is a SWB truck cab,has an injected 383,twin lockers,37" MTRs front and 37"Claws on the rear with an EXO cage and no swaybars.
It is built for the serious use it gets ,is driven not trailered and the
increase in flex is proven.

hoonz and hottie,
im impressed by the flex on the front of both and compared to mine - dam heavy duty springs.... you sur you've done nothing else major?

nothing major ... used nissan genuwine rubber bushes all round
ute is well weighted front to rear ... springs are soft in the front
stiff springs in the rear to stress the front more ...

and as bazzle said take the front bolt out of the radius arm will give u more flex then whats in that pic cause my bolt is still in

I know it works JTop. I just have a personal thing re giving out ideas that may bring someone unstuck. It just worries me some of the things people do
on here on many 4bys. Each to there own :)

Only thing to take into account with your ute 'Hoonz' is that you have cut guards. (I am presuming that pic was with the cut guards you have) so it may lend itself to look like you have more in the front than you really have.

My ute flexes unreal in the ass and always has because it is a heavy bitch and my coils are old and sagged a bit. I have rancho 90112's in the ass and small coil drop outs. I also have polly air bags!!! Anyone says these hold up flex are pulling there dick. Even when they have a little air in em makes no difference. The 90112s max out. If i take em off it gets about another 3-4 inches drop

I will try and get a pic 2morro. Might even put 36 simex's on for fun.

Even the old 3 link with drop boxes front used to flex pretty well just because of weight.

New five link blitz's it but. ;)

heres pics of my wagon, 6" lift a tad sagged,
ImageImage
last one is a little dark, but due to the angles, the front nearly maxed out my shock travel, very rarely does this thou

i have 2" probably now springs and 2" body lift thats it. although now i run slightly larger tyres but i do admit in the pics above, it did flex very nice.

well the card on the camera won't let me get the pics off, so I will try to get a good one on the weekend....The thing prolly has touch less flex in the front, and is about same in the rear....I just geuss I thought there should be a little more down travel in the rear + the springs are fairly new so prolly needs to loosen up a bit for the front to come up.

got some shots today for comparison. I know they are only on a ramp and I know I only have my pissy 33" road tires on but you get the idea. Also rear shocks are holding it up a bit. If I could have been bothered to unbolt it it drops about another 3-4 inches in the coil drop out.
Rear is standard nissan, front is five link
All wheels are still firmly on ground
cheers

Second black mark on ramp is about a '44' drum.
Image
front works about same or more than rear.

PS I do know that flex isn't everything and these are poser shots but ya get that
