newbie question**** please read

hey fellas, ive done searches on google and outlimits4x4 webbie about doing the turbo conversion on the GQ 3 litre. There isnt much info out there.... why hasnt it been done before? the bore and stroke are the same when it come to the rb30 int eh patrol and rb30et in the VL commodore turbo.. so conversion so be very easy. Is there a beta option? The rb30et do great power...so why not use it?? is the 4.2 litre just a beta option.... but with a few mods, cooler and zorst and boost... 300 horses @ wheels is acheviable outt a rb30et!
any ifo would be greatly appreciated.

its been done, its even been mentioned here. Call Sandy Bowman at Aus4wd in Bayswater Vic, he has done shit loads to a few 3.0's... took one to the Drags down here in Melb, and theres a vid clip of him blitzing the burnout comp....

I would be looking at the RPM this is achieved at and the TORQUE available at normal offroading RPM. I've got my doubts it would be useable power for normal driving esp off roading.

But, I'm used to a low powered slow revving diesel and I could be wrong.

Yeah....power is at fairly high revs, that would induse loss of traction......I am happy with the deisels

torque v's horsepower....the same old question. Depends more on how the operator applies the power too when talking about traction!

its reasonably easy when you think about it, if youve got a carby'd one get wrecked turbo VL and send both cars to someone who knows what they are doing and get them to do it, not sh*t canning ya mate but if youve got to ask the question then its probably somthing best left to the pros' unless you are prepaired to have it off the road for a while and spend alot of time on here and on the fone sorting out the unforseen headaches, there again if you already have an injected one it should be a mater of changing the zorst manifold, computer and some extra plumbing

dude... i think you misread my question . Id like to know why people dont do it more often (rb30et), rather they are opting for the 1uz and infinti conversion or are jsut going with the 4.2L. To me.... the rb30 seems to be alot more siimpler to perform, conversion wise....itrs cheaper, parts are everywhere, good power gains...can use existing mounts..and gearbox bolts up.....................SO why dont you guys do it more often? im not haven a "shot" at ya.. im just interested in your response.

i think availability of them when i was shopping for a GQ there was bugger all RB30's i think i found one and they are carby well the one i looked at was when compared to the 4.2 carby the 4.2 wins and bolt a turbo on the 4.2 and you get great performance
