Dual batteries

hey guys im about to hook up a dual battery system in my 4b and have gotten a arb smart soleniod for it what i want it for is to run my winch from both batteries at once. so should i connect to my aux battery and activate the soleniod to get exrta power from the main. or run two cables one to each battery. but i figure if i do that they will be connected all the time any way then. any ideas from you guys would be a great help. thanks chris

I'd be guessing you should hook it up to your auxillary.

You'd normally have your engine running when winching (wouldn't you??) so the alternator can help supply extra current, so the solenoid would normally have both batteries connected together in that situation AFAIK... You don't want to hook both batteries to the winch for the reason you've already said. Just make sure you use the thickest battery cable you can to hook it all up.

Instructions used to say hook it as close to your main battery as possible.

Once the main is topped up after starting, the solenoid will close and link the two.

FWIW, I had trouble with mine. Wouldn't always disconnect when you stop the car, never trusted it..
