Do you think he would sell many if he said it drove like a chunk of shit?
What he thinks is better maynot be your idea of better

Mine handled like a plate of jelly with 6" lift no swaybars ,soft coils plus soft shocks
but once I got the thing out in the bush it was well worth the on road trade off.

The 5" lift could handle ok with

hard coils
stiff shock`s
swaybars on

Yeah i know where your coming from bogged, you have to praise what you market i guess.

But he's kits seem to be the most popular on the market, even compared to the big balls kit and a few others.

i think it would be a silly for any man to say "better"- this is a huge call and quite frankly in my opinon well out of left field.

"As good as" is actually realistic- either they are 'good' saleman or they havnt relised what they have said......

you ask them to put there money on the line if their that sure it will be better and if it is pay dollars if not pay 1/2.

If their kits are that good......excelent i''ll probly get one next..

I've got one.
7 inch. No body lift. No swaybars. Tough Dog shocks adjusted to hard.
Bouncy on the road over bumps but goes round corners pretty well.
You can play with the relative stiffness of the shocks from front to rear...
Harder up front makes it more understeer and lift front wheel round corner...
Harder down the back makes it more taily and lift rear wheels...

Fun :D

I would say Liam bigballs kits are popular as Mannells..

popularity is not always an idication of quality/ (ability to perform the task)

very true, more people would use OME kits than most others....

then again more people would be worried about $$ than quality

Really most of these companies in question are only getting coils, shocks etc etc from some other company anyway and rebadging so what is the big deal. Prolly put your own kit together and save some coin in the mean time. five link is slightly different I guess but manells just copied or bought and rebadged wizards so.......

No point trying to reinvent the wheel so to speak. Just talk to carrols, kings or dobinson etc, get coils then decide what shocks you want. Auto alliance etc.

Might be a couple of phone calls instead of one though I guess

(4wdrivers against rebadging!!!!!)

I know that Brent from Wizard spent a LOT of time with King Springs to produce a coil that was just right for Wizards lifts. He sponsors a few comp cars and revels in the feedback they give him regading his suspension which he then uses to fine tune his kits. I have one of his 5" kits in and it has been great on road - when you have the swaybars connected and superb off.

In the end though the genuine suspension is designed for only handling whilst anything else aftermarket is designed firstly for one thing (ie lift or travel) and then handling second.

i've got a 5 inch kit in our gu and it handles fine. it has been in the truck for about 8 months so i can't remember what it drove like before. it has no rear swaybar onit and the tough dogs set on 5/6. my girlfriend drives it most of the time and she thinks it fine and she stepped out of a sports car so we could by the gu.
the main difference is the centre of gravity is alot higher so high speed corner is out but as long as you remember your driving a 3 ton truck its all good. and it is awesom offroad :D

thanks for that info good to see you havnt had to much problems with the tough dogs and the 5" lift. i know my truck isnt a sports car so i know its not going to handle that good but at least it wont be a pig on road.

am looking to replace my LTR's and was going to put a kit together but mannells kits look pretty good.

Yeah i know i have had the LTR's for about 6 months and i want more travel in hindsight i should have fitted the 80 series ones.

I was thinking of putting a 3" coil underneath or 4" and it'll probably sag but ARB will just rip up my warranty.

I'm thinking I should've gone for 4"s on mine. The sills seem to sit too low on the GU's.
As my springs are quite soft I'm sure it's not sitting at around 2"s now...

I got a 4" lift from Manell and had issues with the work manship of the install. I went to Tough Dogs (4 Way Suspension at Blacktown) and they advised me that the incorrect bushes had been installed in the rear, Land Cruiser instead of GQ PAtrol. Additionally the lift kit I have in has sagged a lot on the passenger side. So much so that people are commenting on it. The lift works well and has great articulation, but get under it and check it out yourself to make sure all is well.

Another guy had a Manell kit fitted to his GU and is not happy at all.

CJ are you happy with Toughdogs? And how long before lift sagged?

thx

The Tough Dogs are great! I got the 43mm adjustables and I can't fault them. Just beware, if you get them and you are going to get new drop arms you need to get the front shocks with the offset lower pin.
The guys at 4 Ways Suspension are really helpfull and sorted all my issues out straight away and the issues weren't caused by them at all. They just want to maintain their reputation and they do it well.
I can drive the vehicle on hardest setting and no sway bars and it handles resonably well, and drop them for off road.
Handled the corrugations on the Oodnadatta track and Strezlecki and plenty highway with no complaints at all.

Sorry forgot the lift sag. less than 12 months before it started to go. Drivers side is fine but passenger is ordinary indeed.

If you install the SNAKE radius arms, it will hande as good as or better than standard...caster plates / bushes are not as effective, and are therefore not going to handle as well.

]Whatg are you looking at 5" 6" 7" radius arms what tyres etc it all changes things.

I know a number of peoples with mannel kits with different combos, and all seem happy with the kit, but some are not so happy with service (I have never had a problem)

As always, it is what you feel comfortable with

The reason why I ask because i plan of buying 5" lift form manell with castor and toughdogs. Isnt his kit acctually snake kit?

Posted: Tue Jan 11, 2005 8:23 am

The kit is his own mix of componantry, and I am not sure of where he get all of it. He get a lot of SNAKE gear, including the radius arms, and I know SNAKE gets stuff from 4WAYS in Blacktown.

every single brand of lift will sag in the first 12 mths, the springs settle to start with, they have had 0 kg on them before, now having 2-3ton on them 24/7 aint going to do much eh...

As said before instead of getting a kit just source all the parts yourself.
Will save you money and get the exact shocks, coils and panhards you want.

Thats what I did anyway and am happy with the outcome.
