What exhaust system.

I'm thinking of extractor and 3in straight through.

Any experiance on what sounds good, legal and street ok.

I figured the 3.9s are too small for a dual 2in straight through.

Anyway someone can send me a soundbyte of their system?

3.9's are probably to small for 3" straight through. With the 5.0L commodore motors, unless they've been stroked to 5.7L or had some form of forced induction, they rekon 3" is to big for them. 2.5" (or even 2.25") would most likley be the most effecitve as engines still need a bit of back pressure to run properly. Also 3" it may be difficult to run it to the back as it is a larger diameter.

Most exhaust shops would be able help you out on this one. Even if they are trying to flog you off their products the difference in running a 2" - 3" is not going to make a difference $$ wise to them. Ring around to a few of them and explain the motor and that the exhaust needs to be run so you won't loose any ground clearance.

We were told by Rova-Craft when enquiring about it that exhausts make bugger all difference to the rover motors yet when we spoke to Jordan Rovertech (these are the tow big rover specialists in Perth) they said it does make a difference. We ended up doing nothing in the end  .

Mine (with extractors) sounded good, until the muffler was replaced.

Just telling you this because you asked for soundbyte, so that you are aware that sound is affected by different mufflers.

My 98 S1 V8 has 2.5" exhaust with Lukey Turbo and an unknown resonator. Performance improvement was immediately noticeable, breathes easier. Sounds great. Started off with a straight thru Lukey, which sounded like opera, it was amazing but too loud for trips.

Am thinking about extractors, now

A single 3" has a greater area then twin 2"s

Twin exhausts are for muscle cars and for looks, a single of 2-3" is best for performance and economical gains.
