Are the exhaust manifolds on the petrol the same as the diesel 4.2? Do you guys get what i'm thinking here. Has it been done before? I didn't look i'm just brain storming.

Yes, extractors are same part petrol and diesel 4.2s

Not really, is a Diesel turbo system cheaper than a petrol?
Has it been done before?
probably been tried.

I been reading about all these turbo setups for the diesel for like 3 grand. Thats got to be cheaper then driving into a shop and getting someone to "custom" make a turbo manifold etc... for my petrol. Once you have the turbo bolted to side of your head you have the hardest part out of the way. The rest of the job should be strait foward. What sized turbo is standard on the diesel?

So nobody makes turbo kits for Petrol TB42's your sayin?

Don't know. Do they? I think in this case it would be cheaper to get the manifold and turbo off a diesel I do the rest myself (within reason)

Give JPC a call, he has had a few smokin GQ's in the past.. serious major neddies.

Seen some of JPC's VL turbos in action. But I think JPC = $$$$$$$$$$$
Might be worth asking them what manifolds they used etc.... but.

one word supercharger

Was thinking supercharger. I had a Vortech on my commodore, but that gear has been sold now, turbo could be fun.

has been plenty of TB42s with the safari diesel turbos fitted in QLD and yes they do get up and go .
As far as i understand they do bolt straight up

hmmmmm OK. **** WANTED TD42 Turbo manifold. ****
Wonder how the carbie will go forcing a few pounds of boost down it?

carby needs to be before the turbo. I you have it after it, it will have boost forcing past seals etc. Only way to go is straight gas, otherwise change to efi. EFI better for tuning anyway..............Also buy the manifold alone. Costs about $450 approx.
Cheers

Well its already on gas so thats a start, run the carbie before the turbo on gas or petrol?

before the turbo. But I wouldn't bother with the carby. Straight gas and or EFI. MMMMM Dual fuel on TURBO - not sure about that. How do you make sure with a carby on duel fuel that the fuel ratio is correct with timing etc

Electronic boost controler so you can turn the boost way down when on fuel? I like the idea of having a small tank of petrol "just in case" caus my LPG fuel gauge just tells me whatever it wants.

If you want to keep petrol/gas, go to EFI. Carby is outdated for a start and less effecient. More power with efi cause it can be tuned better. Buy an aftermarket turbo manifild, second hand efi manifold and a progammable computer for it plus electric high volume pump (I doubt the std pump will push enough fuel) and away you gooooooooooooo....

OK been quoted around $2500-$3000 to turbo my Petrol GQ. All I do is supply the manifold and turbo, the rest is drive in drive out. They said they would be using a XF (weber) carbie and will run around 4 psi on petrol and 8-9psi on gas. I think it would be a good idea in the mean time to loose the points and go electric. It will be a blow thru set up so I can intercool it and run a blow off valve if I wanted. OK now the next step and this will be the hardest part. I need some money.........

All sounds good but i wouldn't reccomend dual fuel, just pick one or another. Yes, aftermarket diesel manifolds bolt straight on ( Safari or MTQ are good) but these are T3 type flanges. If going straight gas keep the carby manifold and go Gas Research carb blow through set-up, with a front mount intercooler and dizzy converted to electronic ignition this works good for small dollars. If going EFI then factory EfI intake with larger throttle body, front mount intercooler and aftermarket computer, fuel pumps, clutch, injectors etc...
Whichever way you go, DON'T be a tightarse with the turbo, roller is the go!!!
P.S : don't like the sound of the weber blow through idea, rarely do petrol carb blow-through systems work properly.... you might just end up really pissed-off if you go this way.

be a good idea to have the donk checked out before turbo fitment.
Probebly might need a rebuild

i just put a turbo setup on my td42 piece of piss 3hrs later it was boosted , these manifolds bolt straight onto tb42 as we tryied this once before , draw threw systems are good on a street car what about angles off road? gas is ok but fuel? i can get either high mount cast dual pulse manifolds 4 $575
or low mount dual pulse 4 about $550, i used a low mount on mine
let me no how you go

ok so this sound good i have a ute with a denco diesel turbo system on it i just did the head gasket on it plus number 4 piston so now i have sold the truck to a mate whos putting a 5L v8 in it i keep the turbo and motor so i can put the trubo system off that on to the petrol sounds like the go to me ill be buying a efi patrol wagon ill most likely have to just hook up a different induction system will i what about the oil feed for the turbo will that come off the same place on the petrol as it does on the diesel and what about the oil dumb where will that bolt up too im very serious about this so as much info as possible would be good. thanks just when i was having trouble with ideas with my next truck

What would these motors (tb42 efi) be like on fuel?
I like the sound of a turboed petrol with efi and I would want to run petrol and not just gas only. They seem reasonably cheep too and would bolt in easy.
Would they chew more than a v8? like a commo v8 for example?
cheers

These things would have to make some good power with a turbo. A mild setup should be good for at least another 60-80 KW's at the wheels wouldn't it?
Just thinking outloud.........
TD42 Turbo manifold and turbo bolts strait up to the TB42. Thats the hardest part.
XF Falcon carbie (its a webber) I was told it was better for the job, Does it bolt up to the TB42?
Upgrade ignition to electronic.
Will the carbie need a plenum chamber, How big?
Should be no problems with a "blow thru" setup.
Wish my car was EFI to begin with......

you WILL regret keeping the carby if you go blow-thru. A mate of mine has spent thousands trying to get this setup to work on an XD falcon. He used the smae carby and has taken it everywhere to get it working. Now he has had to buy EFI for it ( holly injection) to get it to work.
With the money he spent on the carby setup, he could have rebuilt the motor, put a big frontmount intercooler in, ans bought a microtech or similar aftermarket ECU and had it dyno tuned!
My advise is, if you don't have the money to do it properly, leave it alone. you will turn a good working 4wd into a hopeless mechanical nightmare.
I'm sorry if I sound a little sinical, but thats alot of dosh to be handing over for a half assed turbo setup.
JMO, don't flame me.
