Thermo Fan(s)

Hey all,
My little zook isnt enjoying this hot weather and I was thinking thermo
fan(s) mounted between the radiator and front grille, also thinking of cutting some vents into the bonnet to help with a bit of flow through. Has anyone else done this and a) does it work? and b) is it worth it? I have 2 big Narvas infront of the radiator so I need to up the airflow.
Can anyone tell me if theres a model/brand of thermo fan that fits well on the zook and if anyones looking to sell any for a good price pm me, i'm in melbourne

How hot is the temperature down there now? How far up is your temp needle when it is getting hot? Up here in cairns at the moment were getting bout 32 degrees and the needle is bout half way.

hey do you have the fan shroud on ? if not try fitting it, does make some differance mainly when parked.

No shroud at the moment, it was about 38 today and it was about 2/3, pointing at the top of the little picture on a 1.3 temp guage.
Anyone tryed vents or scoops or anything? does it really affect the temp on a motor?

a shroud will really help heaps ,,,
my mate uses commodore type bonnet vents with his 2.o litre sierra..it helps heaps, too..

A shroud will make a huge difference, without it air isn't really being drawn through the radiator, especially at idle.
Otherwise, I presume you've tried the customary coolant flush, you might want to go get your radiator unblocked. My radiator is in very shabby shape and I never had a problem with overheating, even on the sand sitting with my foot flat on the floor on a 34 degree day.
Asides from anything, I can't imagine electric thermo fans enjoy being dunked in water and mud very much either. A mechanical fan is much more reliable.

If you do get a thermo, hook an over-ride switch up so you can switch it on/off when you need to. This way and it doesn't matter if you drive through deep water. Mine is behind the radiator so it's kinda protected as well. I've also got a bonnet scoop sitting directly above the extractors, pushing cool air down onto the exhaust helps kkep the whole bay cool.

What about plain ol' exhaust wrap... the stuff racers use to keep the heat inside the exhaust not out?

Do you have any problems with water/mud and the bonnet scoops?

Not that I am aware of... The only time I got a lot of mud in there was when I was mucking about at a quarry with a mate and his 4b threw mud back onto my zook. But normally not much gets through.
