 I've got a 97 TJ. I've put a new radiator and water pump in it. New thermostat and radiator cap and 50:50 mix coolant. On a hot day using air con it will climb above the 100 mark on the temp guage. When i stop the coolant boils in the overflow tank. I never had this happen when everything was stock. Anyone had this? Most importantly has anyone got a solution??????????

Hello mvanbasten9

Welcome to OL have you had the block flushed out as well. If you haven't there may well be a blockage inside of the water passage. Also try turning the heater on to see if that stops it boiling. If it does impove this will show that there is insuficent cooling capacity aval and there may be a problem with the Fan.

Hope this is of some help

Yeah the whole system has been flushed. I thought maybe there was a problem with the fan but it seems to be working fine. is there some type of cooler grade thermostat i could use?

Does the temp gauge go into the red? If not, then I wouldn't be too concerned. I've had the water in the overflow boil as well, but while the guage is still on 100. (97 TJ)

Admittedly I don't have any coolant in at the moment (yeah, yeah, I know) but if it's not "overheating" then why worry?

There's your problem. Too much coolant solution. The more solution you put in the LESS effective the cooling system. You need a mixture of 1:3 then you won't see your needle go above 100 deg celc.

Cool thanks for that. Manufacturers handbook recommended 50:50 but i'll give 1/3 a try. Thanks heaps.
