Outer Limits 4x4 Board

hey... I have a 2F and just done a compression on 5 of the 6 cylinders as i could not get to the last one to get it out.

these were the results.

6 - 100PSI
5 - 100PSI
4 - 98PSI
3 - 97PSI
2 - 90PSI

these are just from memory but pretty close to what it actually was.

is this normal from a gas 2f.... probably aint had the head done in 10 years... and probably never had the bottom end done?

it blows very little smoke and doesnt use any oil?

peoples thoughts?

oh and i should add that the book says it should be a minimum 113PSI.

i measured this when then car was just ran for about 10mins driving. so it was at running temp if not a little higher.

very common on 2Fs to have serious valve seat recession and burning of the exhaust valves, especially if the EGR is removed or disfunctional - check the valve rocker clearances first then run it up to temperature and check the compression again. use flashlube or valvemaster in it all the time. I wouldn't be too worried about it with them all around 100psi as they are, when they start getting down around 40 - 50 then its time for a head rebuild.

out of interest, did you do a wet test also? if the compression comes up a lot with a little oil squirted in the cylinder, then your problem is in the bottom end (bores/rings) but if it only comes up a little, or not at all, more likely valves.

2F bottom end is pretty good in the wear department, so more likely to be in the top end.

nah... did not test it wet tho i supose i should.. how much oil should i put in the cylinder when i check it? i only had a MAJOR service done not that long ago... and i said to do everything it needed... they done the tappets and stuff should they have checked the rocker clearences then too? i would have guessed so? so only 10000k that was done...
