Exhaust queries

what are exhausts made out of, this must seem quite a stupid quesiton, but i realise they are steel but is there some special grade of steel or anything, and where can i buy it ifso, as well as buying it with a tipped end... i want to do this with my exhaust
this ute is for sale on ebay... if anyone was interested... its hte best design that i ahve liked thus far through searching

Just go to your local exhaust shop and ask them for a price on a exhaust stack to suit your vehicle (they cost more as they are usually chrome)

mate i had stacks on a 45 series ute once. 350 chev int and it was f#*kin load. too loud for me as it was right at head height when driving. ended up selling it but it did sound horn.
most systems made of mild steel but stainless steel available but costs more. got my stacks from trading post $150 for both from memory, dunno new though.

was going to say the same thing, i wanted to do this to my rig too but after talking to a few people about it ive decided not too because of the noise factor, but they look very cool

this will be on my beasty 2.2, so the noise wont be quite as bad as it sounds like you had it... i might check out the trading post and stuff.. might try and go round to the local exhaust placve hre when i get a chance too...
thx for the info... then i gotta find places for it to go under the cab without the clearance being sacrificed

Also just a note, they MAY not be legal, I know for sure they are not up here in QLD.
The regs say the exhaust must exit it the rear of the vehicle OR discharge immediately infront of the paasenger side rear tire if the vehicle has no side or rear door/windows ie: a ute.
Therefore "dumpers" or exhaust that finish at the diff are not legal either.

downwards at an angle to the horizontal of not less than
15 degrees and not more than 45 degrees.
• The exhaust outlet, if to the rear of the vehicle, must
discharge at not more than 10 degrees above or 45
degrees below the horizontal.
• All exhaust and muffler systems must be free of any leaks
or mechanical faults and should be adequately supported.

i think this bit means you can. as long as the tip is 40 mm behind the end of the cab.....but i could be wrong

I think you would have a hard time convincing anyone that your roof line is your floor plan

thats what i mean by reading it carefully, if the stack is behind the cab, then it is 40mm behind the last seam. it says nothing about height, and besides if the stack was that high up, you wouldnt get fumes inthe cab anyway........

Dude you should get the little flaps on the top of the stacks now that`d be cool and 100 lights, huge big bull lights, big 5 poster bull bar, the biggest aireals you can find x 6, cat mud flaps, 500 stickers, big truck mirrors, bundy bar mat on the dash oh and you can`t forget the Conargo Pub sticker either.

There is a place up here in Townsville and I'm sure there is something like this somewhere near you. It's called Highway truck spares and I priced a 4in exhaust stack for a truck and it was $180. Weld that to a couple of mandrel bends and bobs your uncle.
It was all shiny stainless too....looked horn

Go to any old truck spares shop and they are highly likely to have em, they'd be perfect.

Those Qland regs are effin stupid!
our 323 mazda has the factory pipe exiting on the RIGHT hand side of the truck...OPPOSITE the fuel filler (this IS for a reason) but the lux HAD the factory pipe (and the after market one too now) exiting on the LEFT side of the truck!

can someone tell me hte VICTORIAN rules abour how closely an exhaust pipe can run to the fuel tank?!?!
