familybus,
Ref, "how much does it cost to get injectors on a 2.8 ?"
Dunno mate, but the guy that serviced mine, tells me there's not much difference between servicing or replacing them with new ones.
For my money, I'd go for the newies, however, be aware you DON'T have to buy Nissan injectors, there are better available and better prices too.
I had mine done at TOTAL FUEL INJECTION SERVICE
Unit 3/10 Macadam Plce, Balcatta. W.A. 6021
Ph 08 9240 4800
Charged me $500 for servicing FIVE injectors and replacing No 1 (which can't be serviced) as well as replacing the fuel filter.
If your bus has done 235 K's I would reckon she'd be a little due for some tender lovin care.
I just did a solo run on the weekend after the injector service, mainly to see what my fuel consumption was now and to get the feel of the truck without a camper trailer hangin on the back.
Results were 14 litres per 100 K's, still excessive I think for a diesel, though I did do 120- 125 on a few occasions, which probably did not help.
On heavy throttle work, she does smoke, though no longer black, just brown, which is good, by the way, the exhaust pipe internals are no longer black either, just a nice light brown.
Pullin the trailer, she returns 17 litres per 100 K's, which according to much information I've been receiving, is average for a 2.8.
Talkin bout fridges, my son in law has an ENGEL fitted to his 3 litre with dual batteries, the Engel is fitted with a TWO ZONE extension.
He also went away for the weekend, camped over night at our favourite spot, ( NO ! I'm not gunna tell you where just yet) and on starting his truck on Sunday to come home, found his battery............. dead.
The aux was also pretty low. Not good at all.
Stuck in the middle of the forrest with a packed camper trailer hanging on the back and no one else in sight.
Luckily it was on a decent slope towards the river, he let the battery rest for a bit, then turned her on to allow the glow plugs to heat up and let her roll backward down the slope towards the river and dropped the clutch, luckily for him, she started, cause if not he could've ended up IN THE BLOODY RIVER, and no one there to pull him out.
He reckons an auto lecy is gonna check his truck out before he goes again. HEH.
I guess there must be a moral to the story somewhere, like don't trust your dual battery system 100 % ????
Oh another thing happened as well, on the way home the truck began to vibrate somethin awful, couldn't even talk it was so discomforting.
Having experienced such vibration before, I knew what it was, so eased off some and kept it under the speed where it was minimal.
Today had a ring around trying to price a set of UNIVERSALS for the truck.
Results :
Odin Auto Parts, Balcatta- Duh ! try the wreckers, we don't sell em.
Repco Balcatta,
4 Uni's at $218, and they claimed different unis were required for the back and front.
Nissan Wanneroo.
$138.05 EACH,
Total cost $552 without fitting.
CBC Bearings Malaga,
$137.30 FOR FOUR UNIVERSALS which for the 2.8 are the SAME FOR BOTH FRONT AND REAR.
I could not fault the Unis from CBC, they are Australian made and look exactly the same as the nissan ones I took out, except the grease nipple was in a different spot, they appeared to be just as robust as the oldies, keep tuned for long levity of these units.
So there you go Fellas, you don't always hafta go for Nissan bits.
Hope this helps some one.
