This may or may not be the place to ask this.

I have a VR series 2 Auto motor with a VN T700 gearbox. I was going to just buy a VN or VP computer / loom but have been told the VR auto motors have a crank angle sensor electronics plug on them that the VNs and VPs didn't have and are computer controlled?

Can anyone tell me if this needs to be connected or not?

I would really prefer to run the VR motor off a VN / vp computer and loom if possible

I guess my question is.. does anyone know if a VR auto motor can run from a VN or VP computer and loom.

Thanks

Jason

I think you would find that the crank angle sensors are different dont know if you can retrofit a vn-vp one or not. A very good source of info is www.kalmaker.com what they dont know about delco efi setups as fitted to holdens ain't worth knowing. A possible drama you might find if rego gets picky is that a vn-vp computer wont pass emissions on a vr motor due to the computer being earlier than the motor. Very anal i know but it might take some effort to prove it all complies. Myself i would have the body module written out of the vr computer and use that. May be a lot less headache in the end.
Cheers Matt

All the motors have a crank angle sensor they will not run without one
But what you are talking about is a cam angle sensor
YES you can retrofit the VP harness with out the cam angle sensor
I do this on both VR and Ecotec engines
I prefer this way because you havea simple computor to use and can be easily swaped if you have a problem with the computor
