my glow plugs wernt working, so i found the problem, fixed it and now they dont turn off........is there a temp sensor, or a timer to turn them off, cause im lost.........

Specific vehicles may be different - you don't say what yours is.

Usually they are are turned off by a timer.

Some glow plug timers include a thermistor to measure under bonnet temp. The temp determines whether glow plugs need to be turned on and the duration that they are on.

There is quite a variation in glow plugs. Some heat very fast and require less than 5 sec, others may need 10 or more sec.

sorry, its in my 2000 model GU TD42 (the white one in the pic).........im still lost......., i looked for temp probes, but maybe i was looking in the wrong spot.......

Electronic timer, measures temp (sensor) and hold in Glow relay for "x" time according to resistance of sensor.

Still normally drops out after a Max time. If not relay 'May" be sticking OR timer faulty.

Thought you said you found the fault in your post ? What was it?

the original fault was that the glow plugs wouldnt come on, it was because the connector that plugs into the injector area was stuffed......., i fixed that, and now they dont turn off once they are on. the relys arnt stuck, there off when the ignition is off. and i can hear them click on at start up, does anyone know where this timer is situated in a GU?? i supose that is the next point to check.........

On the GQ TD 42, i found that if there was the slightest connection problem at the temp sensor (located on the thermostat housing) this would cause the glow plug timer to cycle the relay on and off continualy when when the engine is running. Check to connections to the sensor are clean and secure, and the multi-pin connector on the bottom of the timer module is secure.

did your glow plugs turn off and then on agin, cause mine are just dead set on, turn key on, have glow plugs........turn key off, have no glow plugs....

does anyone know if this could be causing damage to anything, or changing performance........

Sorry don't know specific details of your glow plug circuit.

The glow plugs are likely to be damaged if left on, and being an indirect injection diesel, you will need them to start when outside temps are low.

From what Nick said, it appears the glow plug timer uses the temp sensor in the thermostat housing. Rovers use a thermistor inside the timer/relay unit to measure temperature.
