My brother has an '89 GQ Patrol TD42, he bought it with a 2nd battery tray in it that holds both a large 80Ah battery and the standard radiator overflow bottle (in its normal position).
I'm looking for one of these for my 92 Mav TB42 as it should fit around my snorkel with small modifications to piping on the pre-cleaner, I currently have the standard ARB battery tray which only holds a smaller 55Ah battery on the rear passenger corner of the engine bay. (thinking of utilising this one as a compressor mounting base!)
Does anyone know who makes this particular diesel battery tray?

The ARB Battery tray mounts directly opposite the existing battery tray. It bolts to the inner guard using the holes that support the overflow bottle. The Overflow bottle mounts in a space between the battery carrier and inner guard. Are you sure that the tray you have now is an ARB type? I didnt know that they mounted that far back in the engine bay..

First of all we are talking about aftermarket dual battery trays, not the standard engine battery tray.
Yes I have the Petrol model from ARB, mounts lengthwise across the firewall in the rear passenger corner of the engine bay, but is too short for anything larger than a 55Ah battery.
The tray I'm after is an aftermarket diesel model for a dual battery system, mounts on the passenger side inner guard, and the radiator overflow bottle mounts inside the battery tray alongside the battery. The one we have has nothing written on it to say who makes it.

The tray you described that sits on the firewall is the later model tray that was designed for the 2.8 engine as the air filter body is in the way of the wheel guard. From what i remember the same tray is speced for a petrol as well I think maybe the three litre. If that tray is fitted to your 4.2 then someone who previously owned your truck may have gotten it cheap or something. As more matter of intrest though you can use both 4.2 tray and the 2.8 tray to run a three bank battery system for anyone who may be interested.

Would it be feasible to use my 3rd Battery tray to mount the compressor in the engine bay, I'm concerned about dust, water and engine bay temperature affecting the compressor....
I'm not to keen on mounting the compressor in cab, but what if I had it in the engine bay with the filter extended in under the dash to suck cleaner cooler air and use some kind of shield around the compressor to reduce dirt and heat??
Any suggestions.....

do you actually bolt them down, or just "place" them there?
if you bolt them down, what are you bolting them to? or are you drilling holes through the floor etc?
holes thru floor with silicon to seal them up is how mines fitted

Its probably the best place to mount it under the driver's seat. Its well protected down there and its out of the way. Mine has steel plates under the floor where they are bolted through. With a proper fitting rubber grommet for the air line to the diff.
Are you using the compressor for airlockers as well?
You might get the smell of diff oil if you run the breathers in the cab.

Dont expect mere proof to sway my opinion.
