How come you wanna do away with a filter? I figured it'd be better on there... But your decision.
I'm not looking at a sd33 at the moment, but from memory i'd say it's a breather from the rocker cover, or crankcase, or at least thats where it should be connected. Don't block it up, just fit a fitting into the clean side of you pre-cleaner and hook it up there - if you must!!

im thinking off getting rid off it for 2 reasons less air restriction hopefully more power and with my body lift the pipe from the precleaner to the car type dont fit no more has anyone else done this

I also reconnected the piping between the two airfilter after the bodylift... it's not worth risking it with water. How much power do you think your going to get from removing an airfilter?!?!?! Remember nissan originally designed the SD33 for forklifts

i wasnt looking for a massive increase in power but i thought it my help even if its a bit
so nobody has changed the intake on the sd the pipe that runs from the precleaner to the other is split which was another reason to get rid of the car type so does anyone know if you can get new replacement ones or any ideas

Im having the same problem with mine after a body lift and also wondered if you could do away with the pre-filter. Not too sure wether it would affect the car in any way. I dont see why it would .

You wouldn't get bugger all power increase, I drove my sd33 mq round the block with no filters just to see what it was like.
You would just get worse filtration.

You will get nothing exta power wise.
It is conveniant how ever for the body lift.
I would NEVER remove the round large filter on the motor......
IF U MUST remove a filter, take the pre filter out and weld a small 2 inch peice of pipe to the side of the main filter where the old opening is and close off the odd shapped hole with steel welded in and Run a round pipe over to ur quarter panel for a snorkel.

that would be right all the work done on moding the precleaner was a waste of time trust me to learn the hard way again

Its conveniant to do that ONLY for the factor that u dont need that wierd little pipe between the 2 filters that wont quite fit properly without silastic and the constant worry that it might leak...

So u dont risk damaging ur engine by not having the precleaner connected?? I dont see why it would damage the engine, one aircleaner should be plenty.

I run only the main aircleaner and I use a oil soaked finer filter. The first pre-cleaner is there for.
1. slightly cleaner air in extreme conditions.
2. as a cyclone to remove any water from the intake on non snorkled vehicles.
Finer filter never listed a filter for the mq but i used one from a v8 falcon with the large filter on, fits fine.

u can safely enough remove the pre cleaner.... just i wouldnt remove the main filter at all.
Also u wont gain anything apart from engine bay space by removing either of the filters....
so y bother????

The only reason why i wanted to remove it is to make a better fitting for my snorkel cause the setup i got now sucks big time

thats a decent reason to pull it off. but modify the main filter to take a round pipe as you wont get pipe easy with that oval fitting....

screwy said but modify the main filter to take a round pipe as you wont get pipe easy with that oval fitting....
this sounds good in theory but would be a hell of alot of mucking around i mean how do you put a 3 inch pipe in the side of the main cleaner when its only 2.5inch or less high when you could just run flex pipe from the precleaner to the throttle body but that other pipe that comes from the bottom of the main filter and goes down the back of motor becomes a prob again i cant bloody win

i wouldnt take the main filter off.
only the pre filter if you really have to.
the main filter also has the rocker cover vacuum etc on it.
Its easy as to do. Just get a small peice of 3 inch pipe, and weld it onto the outside of your oval fitting, then put 2 small peices of flat steel cut to shape on either side of the pipe where the oval is.
abit of mucking around but should only take an hour...
and u can use the factory filter.
