triton making funny noises

my mate has a 2.8td triton, after a narly hill climb his mitsu started making this awful noise , sounds like its coming from the drivetrain
only happens when its under load like sand driving its definatly not a CV noise

Where is the noise coming from, is the transfercase chain jumping?

i think it is definatly coming from the gearbox or transfercase how can the chain jump wouldnt that take the teeth out, how comman is this i have cainned my paj of road all i have done is snapp 2 axels and wreck a locker

The chain is a Morse or Silent type, which are self tensioning.
When they wear they can jump,Perhaps drain the oil and check the drain plug magnet.
