80 Series Cruiser's

Im looking for an 80 series as i am leaning towards a petrol one i want some feed back on how much juice they really use compared to say the diesel and turbo diesel.
I go in sand and mud frequently and drive 500km per week?
what would be the better option with deisel prices the way they are atm.

500 k's will cost u the best part of 70-80 bucks.....
Mines got 7" springs and 36's and it uses about 20lt to the hundred k's
Its a petrol 4.5

Mine got a 6 inch lift and 35's and I use about 18 - 20 around town and about 15 - 16 on high way.
Soft sand driving is the killer. I went through about 350 litres on fraser over christmas in 6 days.
Went through a quarter of a tank one day getting from jast past waddy point to eli creek.
Worked it out to be about 40 litres per 100ks/
This was travelling at near high tide in very soft sand with the foot almost flat to the floor. Doing about 80km/hr plus mates in (deisel's got there half an hour later and almost got stuck)
You could almost watch the guage fall.
Same with on the way there, all loaded up. Went through a fair bit more fuel than the mates deisel however he was struggling to do 80km/hr up hills where as I was sitting on 110km/hr all the way.
My opinion is that they are no worse if you drive em like a deisel. (SLOW)
Problem is that the power is there so you tend to use it which equals excessive fuel.

I have a 91 model diesel 1hz 80 series with 33inch claws standard suspension and i can almost bank on 10 - 14 on the highway depending on speed traveled at tend to get better economy at 90 compared to 100 ect and between 12 - 16 in town these are rough figures. While they are slow as to accelerate if you have to travel long distances than i would go the diesel but if you want straight up power off the line than the petrol wins out

I had '96 diesel and got 13 k/litre Highway @110kmh standard tyres .

every one is different personaly i would only have a petrol EFI as you get a lot more car for a lot less money and they are cheaper to repair and most desiel people spend a heap of money trying to make them go like a petrol i get just under 7klm to the litre at 115klm per hour on hwy running 35's on my 4.5 EFI petrol and if i turbo and intercool it like they do the desiels try and keep up then

i've got a 1hz turbo + intercooled, goes slightly better (but nothing to brag about) than my mates 4.5 petrol and i don't have to lift my bonnet after every river crossing. now he's going to sell his 4.5 for a turbo diesel but each to thier own. as for cheaper to repair, my 1hz has 430 000 on the clock and it's cost me one set of glow plugs!, and a 1hz will easily outlast a petrol

Ive got my V8 80 as my play thing and the wifes 80 HDJ80 fact turbo has been the best and reliable all round 4B . I run up to 38" tyres its got lockers, OME LTR's, 2" bodt lift and 8000 himount and it does the tough stuff no worries mind you its a bit beaten up thou. As far as fuel goes it would allround average 10 ltr/100 Km.

My dads 100 petrol does 22lts per 100km
