Replacing R151f Gearbox Oil

Couple of quick questions:

How much oil does it take?
Is it best to try and fill through the filler plug or take the shifter off?
It's full when the oil starts to tip out the filler plug?

Cheers

not much more that 2 litres. fill it from the filler plug, that's why it's called the filler plug. yes full when oil is at the level of the bottom of the filler plug hole.

hint: take out the FILLER plug first, before you drain the gearbox - that way you can't get into a situation where the gearbox is empty and you can't fill it up again - sometimes the filler plug can be stuck or rounded off so it's hard to get out.

this happened to me 2nd last time replaced rear diff oil. drained oil out, went to undo filler and it wouldnt budge. had to borrow another car and then borrow impact socket to get filler plug out (6 point socket instead of my multipoint). oh, also bought new drain and filler plugs

For an easy way to fill the box, get a garden pressure sprayer, remove the wand and the restrictor in the line.Pour the gearbox oil in and pump up the pressure.Hey presto the oil flows into the gearbox while you suck on a coldie.

I use another method little more labour intensive but works ok. I use a 2ltr coke bottle with a peice of fish tank hose (any oil resistant hose will do) pushed thru the lid rite to the bottom of the bottle. the bigger the bore the better.(Of the hose that is)
method is take lid off fill with 1 to 1& a 1\2 ltrs of oil (air space helps)
replace lid. put other end of hose in diff / gearbox, squeeze bottle, befor letting go release cap to let air into bottle, or it will just suck oil back down the tube. repeat until diff /gearbox is full. admittedly takes more effort and cant drink a tinny while your at it, but works well in the sticks after the emergency repair. i had to use the diff breather extension hose once.
ps if you find you have to seal the lid to the hose do it from the inside thats where the pressure is. actually i have this set up in my tool kit permantly now just the lid and hose. Theres always an empty coke bottle floating around some where, or a full one the kids dont mind helping you empty.

I filled it using some clear beverage tube and a small funnel into the beverage tube. Took a fair while :(

Anyhow the capacity was exactly 3 litres which was lucky cause thats all I bought :)
