i paid 8500 for my 86 4bd1 from a dealer 320k bog stock with bullbar and disco wheels. would have paid 10,000 though. Have seen some in trading post from 8 to 13 k. It depends on overall condition. does it have rust in the door bottoms, is the rear cross member showing rust behind the jacking tube, has the gearbox (i assume it is a 5 speed) got much slack, does the aircon need a regas, tyres, suspension bushes etc etc. i have mine insured without extras for 9200 with NRMA, would think it is worth more.

Thanks for the replies fellas, it's a white 1987 with ARB whichbar+12000lb warn+IPF, 2batts, AC is remote mount Red-Dot with consol inside, really it gets too cold, even up here!, 5sp G'Box-mod done, new bushes+bilsteins over the past 12 months. It has a heavy-duty roofrack with a maggiolina roof tent and also a Mantec rear wheel carrier, along with the usual accessories ie: 2 Engle fridges, VHF/CodanHF, & recovery gear.

It has this wierd cornering system that is hydraulically driven, working on a pendulum under the bonnet and 2 rams, one front & rear. It works really well, especially with the extra wieght on the roof.

My 2 biggest regrets are that JRA didn't galvanise the chassie, firewall, and door frames, while they were doing the Perentie thing. I'll just have to do them myself, and the hopeless pommie wiring.

Anyway I'm digressing majorly here, you just can't help it, owning one of these vehicles!

I was after a price for the engine (4bd1) alone, as I'm fitting a 4BD1T shortly. ;)

Sorry guys, I think the jist might have been lost when Tom moved the original enquiry. Thanks again, cheers.....

Yeah - Just didn't want the 4bd1 into a disco thread to be hijacked - I will edit the title here for a better response

Ah well, guess I'm talking to myself, not a great deal of interest... anyway sold the engine yesterday, not too worried about the price, it's going to a good home, in fact it couldn't be better...another county, an ex v8 and owned by another real enthusiast!!.... now who knows something about intercoolers, nah just kidding Tom, I'll start another thread....cheers.

I think a lot of prople were confused (like me) as to whether you were selling just the 4BD1 or the whole truck. Hence most of the replies were about the price of a complete county with 4BD1.

Most of the ex-landie 4BD1's (and truck 4BD1's) I have seen for sale went for about $3000, although I know a few that were purchased for a lot less than that.

Yeah, I know, I thought 3k was cheap-plenty of oil changes & keep an eye on the fuel -they last for ever!!, but ah well, if thats what they're going for..I didn't do to bad.
