Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hi Guys

Just asking what sort of paint you guys use for under your trucks, such as chassis rails, diffs, belly of truck etc. Do you just use Septone Chassis Black?
Also what do you use for painting the rest of your trucks panels. I would like to use 2 Pack paint but its pretty expensive, I have painted with it before and its finish and strength is excellent.

Textured stoneguard for under, rattle can acrylic for topside, enamel rustguard for other components.
But this is just on a trail rig, no bling.

Killrust epoxy enamel gloss black.
Keeps it all clean and tidy.

My thoughts are that when you start cakeing on that body deadener stuff you can get rust underneath it withought even knowing.

house paint, liquid paper whatever is the cheapest.

He he just jokes, I re-did mine in orig factory colour and enamel. The reason I steered away from funky colours was that apparently they show up the imperfections a lot more. The reasons that Toyota chose the colours 28 years ago.

Anything goes underneath though, aint goign to last too long if you drive it places that I want too.

I did the body deadener inside though, I treated it with some killrust stuff first though. If you are going to use it I think it only wise to treat it first as pointed out earlier.

I'm a big fan of the rust preventing enamels, but I found (after a mate sprayed his with the white knight brand) the paint goes chalky after a while with constant UV (outside use). The wattyl killrust does not seem to have this problem.

Can't believe everything that roothy recommends...look at his troopy as an example

I've used the white knight black paint and haven't had any problems...... 6 months now

Just thinking some more about that.

I reckon that the best stuff to spray under your car woul be that zinc paint.
Have a few cans at home can't remember what it's called.
Think there is a few brands.

This Sh@it is unreal.
I sprayed it on some homemade steel axle stands that were very rusty about 10 years ago. They have been sitting outside in the whether ever since and this stuff has just stopped the rust period. (No normal paint could do this)
Only thing is that it is grey in colour and would look prety sh@t.

if you are looking for a tough low maitenance finish on you panels, use poly U its only slightly dearer than auto enamel,& 1/2 the price of 2K ,full gloss off the gun, & because it was originally designed for marine use,very uv stable etc. only downside is you can't get it in metallics.
for underside I use epotec epoxy black semi gloss depending how you spray it & tough as nails.

poly u or polyurethane also known as industrial 2 pak ,its been around for awhile alot of boats yachts etc are painted in it, although over the last few years more cars seem to be getting sprayed with it.
s@$t easy to use ,make sure you have the right air cap & needle in your gun to suit 2 pak , I've seen a couple of jobs lately with a lot of "orange peel" only 'cause they haven't set their gun up properly.
cheap as I bought another 4l the other day $250 with hardner, 4L will do about 1.5 average cars.
you end up with a good tough finish,with full gloss off the gun,no cutting or polishing .

just started to paint my GQ with a 2pak marine paint(signal red) looks good so far. have heaps left over if anyone is keen pm me. it sprays on pretty good and is quite glossy

Might have to come have a look at yours and see if i like it if there is enough left over

$2.50 spray cans from supa cheap!!!




actually sad thing is spend much more on the primers than on the top coat

i used acrylic paint with clear on my chassis for some bling...

it hasnt chipped yet....


but usually we get em sand blasted,gal dipped,sprayed in chassis black.

paint everything matt black...inside,outside underneath......It's very easy to repair if/when you damage your ride or have to replace panels. For chassis rails I used bitumen paint, it won't chip, gets in everywhere, it's water proof, last forever and best thing is it only comes in black so it'll match the rest of your matt black car!!! Only down side is it takes a long time to dry properly...
