4.2 and turbo from GQ to GU

posting for someone else i know.......

Hiya all,

I want to transfer the turbo-charger from the GQ to the GU (both 4.2 diesels).

On the GQ the High Pressure oil feed to the turbo comes from a tee piece where there is a HP oil line from the vacuum pump mounted directly to the back of the alternator on the l/h side of the front of the motor. This oil line goes from the vacuum pump to the engine block, entering the block directly below the front cylinder exhaust outlet.

It is a similar case for the Low Pressure line with a similar route for the larger diameter LP oil line from the vacuum pump to the engine block with the tapping point slightly lower on the block than the HP one.

The GU does not have the vacuum pump mounted to the back of the alternator and the tapping points on the block used on the GQ are just plugged . Can I tap into these same points on the block to get access to high pressure oil? Or do I have to plumb oil lines all the way across the motor to find the HP and LP oil lines from the new location for the vacuum pump on the r/h side of the motor? Or is there another, better location to get the HP and LP oil from with a GU?

It's a big job getting bigger every time I look under the bonnets.

The vacum pump has nothing to do with the turbo oil feed points. The only reason there is a oil lines going to the vacum pump is to lubricate the bearings in the pump. 10/95 there change the location of the pump to under the injector pump and being bolted directly to the timing cover, the oil splashing around in there will lubricate the bearings. The engine blocks are the same. So there is no reason why you can't plum the oil lines from the same spot as the GQ. If you want you can evan plum the oil return from the turbo to the bigger 3/8 BSPT oil galleray. Or swap sumps.
Hope this helps.
Cheers
