What damage can I expect ?

Was in a hurry and forgot to disconnect my alternator and batteries before doing some welding on the Vit.
Now, when I turn the key I get a loud clicking / buzzing noise from under the dash, and neither battery holds charge as far as I can tell.
What damage do you think I may have suffered from my dumb mistake?
Oh yeah, the car won't start either

Melted wiring and blown fuses.
This is what happened when my mate did the same thing on a GQ. Hw melted a whole wiring loom.
Check all fuses and scan / test the main wiring looms.

my guess would be fried diodes, and or regulator in the alternator, could be causing the batteries to go flat

computer may be unhappy, but a disconnect and reconnect of power may reset it. christover

Im thinking this one for the charging problem. The buzzing noise you will just have to look for.

I never disconnect batteries when Mig welding, However I do make sure the Earth is close to the item being welded and on the same piece of metal.

this was my first thought, however the car hasn't run since I welded on it, and so the alternator hasn't been put to use yet. I had both batteries on charge overnight with no success
although if I ever get it going, the alternator will more than likely be fried, I reckon

if the diodes are fried they will be putting a constant load on the bateries regardless if its spinning or not, you may find that buzzing sound was caused by the low battery voltage not being able to positive trigger the relays, disconect the alternator, charge the batteries and see what happens, its only a 2 sec job

That makes sense.
I'll do that first up tomorrow and see what happens

Got it sorted.
Ended up not being something to do with the welding,
Pinched the fuel pump power wire against something when I put the tank back in, causing an open circuit.
No fuel pump, no go
