ive been told that you can only go 2 inches over standard on leaf springs.
the vihecle is a GU coil cab 2000 model, does anyone know if you can go to a 4 inch lift?

Umm, isnt the idea of it being a
coil cab that it has
coil springs

yep your absolutely right gonzo........a coil cab has got coil springs........under the cab
coils on the front and leafs on the back

Arh, thats right you can get them with leaves out back too
Roly has a GU ute with coils all round...
Anyway, with leaves you could go a mild lift - then add shackles maybe even some dropped hangers or even lift blocks and pretty soon you're up high.

did nissan tell you that. That's what they told a mate of mine but it was to do with load carrying.... not physical limits on springs

nah, a mate told me that. incidently he only has a 2" lift on his cruiser, leafs all though. he reckons he was srious, but i think hes jelous that i wana go 4"

You can go well over 2"

But remember lifted leaf springs need to be stiff to hold their arch so they don't generally travel very well. Perhaps this is what your mate meant
The best travel with leaves comes from long leaves with little to no lift

You can go higher. Get a set of leaves made up, which are longer than standard, then get the extra lift put into them. The extra length allows more curve, whilst keeping the shackle angle correct.
This is the way I went for extra lift on my Rocky.

ok, getting leaves made up sounds like a pain in the ass...........what about 3 inches of lift, has anyone done that b4?
otherwise 2" it is

From what perspective are you asking if it is possible.
Legally you can only lift by about 2" (depends on the bump/rebound suspension measurements - read the QLD transport regs).
Practically you can lift by a lot more but every 1" extra induces extra complications that need to be solved in terms of stability, brake lines, castor, prop angles, etc.
Why do you need 4" of spring lift? For stability, the best rule is to lift the absolute minimum necessary to fit the tyres you want to run.

reason for 4" is that theres a set of coils cheap in the for sale section......dont really need 4" i think. id like to run 35's if i can. but would that depends........st this poin in time, i just thoguht id buy the 4" coils because there cheap

not a necesity

i think you would be surprised at the cost of making up leaves try ringing ALLSET SPRINGS in BLI BLI on sunshine coast sorry dont have number on hand but they may have done what you want before if not 2 inch spring and 2 inch extented shackle will give you 4 inch but the rear may not work as well as the front have you thought about getting a rear diff with coils set up from a later model and fit it up or another thought go spring over

Punctuation would be a good start.
A 2" leaf spring list and 2" extended shackle will give only a 3" lift. Unless you drop the front (solid) hanger 2" as well.

I don't own one but I have always thought that COIL CAB referred to the all coil version.
So I checked the trusty internet and whenever anyone refered to a COIL CAB there were pictures of a Nissan Patrol ute with coils all round.

as in an all coil sprung cab-chassis. I'd bet there is no springs between the chassis and the cab itself.

i think mickyd555 would know whats under his own truck

if you looked further you would find that nissan brought out both being coil front leaf rear and coils front and rear and i think only in the last couple of years they have had coils allround only

So, a coil cab has leafs.

I was of the impression... Coil Cab - coils in 4 corners.. Leaf Cab - coils on front, and leaves out back.

ok, whatever i have, its got a set of coil springs on the front(under the cabin) and a set of leaf springs under the tray section. as far as im aware, a coil cab refers to the cab section being coil sprung. hence the "coils all round" phrase for the models with "coils all round" as far as im aware, and the last time i checked (last years 4X4 and camping show in brisbane) you can still purchase a leaf all round version as well. but lets get back to the topic of the original post.
does anyone here actually know what options i have for spring height on leaf springs? it doesnt matter what i call my truck/rig/coil cab/ 4b/ ute, all im after is some info on the springs that are under it, ie: coils on the front and leafs on the back.
my australia day rant............

Off the shelf? Probably max of 2"; custom... any height you want. Then you can also go spoa, lift blocks, extended shackles, or dropped hangers.

Do the Patrols run spring over or under??
Spring over would be the easist way of gaining the lift.
Other wise unless you use all the weight carrying capacity I'd be checking out the possibility of a coil conversion.

2 inch will be the easiest, I don't believe Spring Over conversions are legal up in QLD.
If I remember rightly you guys are allowed 2 inches on springs, 2 inches on tyres.
Then you really have to work hard to keep it legal after that.

Extremely exciting revelation I know.

As you would see in another gazillion posts.................
Two inch spring lift is all most insurance companies will allow. RTA will let you have more.
Tyre diameter can be increased by 15%
Body lift is 50mm (certificate needed)
SPOA is a big no no if it is used to increase ride height.
You'd be able to get a 2in lift from any 4x4 store in australia for your Patrol but any more than that will cut your options down.

Well considering how
STUPID this tangent is this is my last bit. I NEVER said there was only one type I was merely pointing out that his coil/leaf is not a coil cab. If he was to ask a shop for a lift kit for his oil cab he would get the incorrect info. I am well aware that that Nissan Patrol utes have suspension type choices from the factory.
Touchy aren't you
