-they are expensive to make or

-you are paying for new technology,
Therefore they will be a lot cheaper in time.

Its not alot of money once you`ve spent 20 to 30k on your rig on top of buying it. If you do alot of comps with lots of night stages I think they are worth spending the $$$$ on. Untill I used some for a night I to thought the same as you, but after having used them once they are on my to get list, just near the bottom of it

There are conversion kits for existing driving lights that are well below $1,000.

mega bling factor for HID I reckon

a good set of (cheap) 100W spotties will give you more than enough light

what more do you want to see? whats the point?

You can get Hella H4 inserts and 90/130 globes for couplea hundred....

People go on about "why do you want to see out to 1000m for?" Well it's not that you can see out to that distance, it's how well you can see closer up if the light is good enough to reach that kind of distance. It all comes down to what application you buy them for. A lot of night comps are based on time so you want it to be as close to daylight as you can make it to give yourself the best chance of getting through unscathed.

35W is what the mega $$$$ lightforce use....

Cheaper for me to but some NARVA spotties and fit this HID kit than to buy some halogen lightforce 170s......

Anyone already done this?

should be gold plated for that....

anyway spotties are low priority at the moment but when I can I will try the HID kit and let y'all know how it goes

Ive got 4 Hella HID's on the front of my rig and the quality of light they put out is just like driving in the day time. The light they put out is as close to natural light that can be produced and if your driving all night the fatigue on your eyes is greatly reduced in comparison to normal halogen lights . If you try and equal the amount of light HID lights put out with conventional lights you would need to tow a diesel generator around behind you to power the lights. Some of the best $$$$ i have spent.

Would work in a twin head light 80series, XR Falcons and an old datto.

HID lights are ideal for comps all the guys that i know that used in the night nav run in warby a couple of weeks ago all want a set ... they borrowed them off a mate..

HID lights are just like an advantage tool for 4wd like lockers or a faster motor or better suspension.

If you ever get the chance to use a pair of lightforce HID`s do it, I`ll put money on it that you change your opinion.

there was a seller on ebay a few weeks ago selling 12500k h4 sets for 450ish. Aswell do hid bulbs blow like normal globes with too much vibration or are they more robust? whats the price on a new HID globe only? (or shouldnt i ask)$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

They are more robust with vibration because they have no filament in the globe.
I think from memory (which is dodgy ) globes for HIDs are around the $200 mark.

As far as I know Cheezy is still on the origonal globes in his HID`s and his are like the 2nd set made. Also remember he rolled his mav on them and they are still going today. Another advantage of the HID`s is that they are only a 35w globe and there for use alot less power then normal lights. 3 sets of HID`s make up 1 pair of normal lights. Comes in handy if you are winching at night and don`t want the beer in ya fridge to get hot.

If I was to get HIDs I would only get one spread beam as it would be sufficient enough to do the job.

when i bought my xgt's the bloke at the shop was telling me how someone tried fitting the hid kit to some lightforce's and stuff around for ages with spacing to avoid the big black hole.
So say $495 for XGTS
+ $450 for kit & u have hid lightforces for $950. but then your warranty is stuffed if u burn the lenses and are probably not going to be as good. However its cheaper than one lightforce hid outta the box.
The xgt's thou are good.
Although watching cheezy's mav with the HID's look cool

But HID run much lower power, and are much more efficient, so the heat output is significantly lower than halogen lights and your risk of burning anything is greatly reduced.

HID is the go for comps thou, gives the batteries a break too
I'm happy with the XGT's thou, although i havn't given them a real good run as yet

If anyone wants to see in the dark, I can sell you them at $1125 each delivered. Maybe if enough of you buy them I can afford one too.
