Should be R134A. Around 90-92 was when they started changing them over; but my '92 (which had aircon installed sometime after delivery) was R12. There should be a sticker on the under side of your bonnet that states what gas it is.

There isn't much involved to get it changed over to R134A. The oil needs to be changed in the compressor (ie remove compressor and turn upside to drain; then install new compatible oil); and you'll need a new receiver drier. Apart from evaxcuating the system and regassing, that's it. I had a friend in the aircon business help me do mine last year.

I have the old gas, but its escaped.

It hasn't worked in years now & as I'm staring to do misc mods i was wondering if it will do any harm ro remove the A/C pipes runing about my engine bay (possibly the associated radiator & compressor too) ??

Will this increase the cost if or when I get it regased? I think the pipes would need rereouting anyway because they get in the way of where I want a dual batt setup.

post 1993 is r134a if you wanna go the cheap way out and you know someone in the trade you can get away with just putting adaptor on the r12 valves and regassing it. it may last for a few years it may not
