On track axle removal!

Dear Forumers
It seems that probably one of THE MOST common failures with the old 10 spliner axles while 4Bing in the bush is the axle/uni/C&P failure. Can someone post up on the forum a quick step by step guide for both front and rear diffs on how to assess, recover, and if possible get the car home under its own steam.
For the rear, I presume its a matter of remove axle, add axle cover/stubb (already in vehicle) to eliminate oil leakage from diff, undo and remove rear tail shaft, apply central diff lock and drive home....
But the front with either a broken uni or axle seems like a more complex situation.
Can someone post a guide for all us as yet not upgraded MAXI's....I hope I never need to use it but with 33's and 5ltr's of fire breathing animal under the bonnet, I can almost hear the axles breaking from here!!! Maxi in rear but teh fronts gonna spit one soon.............
