Fitting 36" tyres

A quick query - what is the mods required to fit 36" tyres under a GQ ute, currently I have a 3" lift and 1" body lift. I am looking to go to 4" and 2" respectively or should I just go for a 6" spring lift :D and leave it at that. Motor is std diesel - turbo is way off - will I need to change diff ratio's to get around?

Cheers

I have the same GQ tray standard diesel. Go the 4" spring and 2" body, the guards will need a slight trim of the rear of the arch to fit the 36es, and yes you will need to go atleast 4.6 diff gears with the tyres.
Get the turbo ASAP with a good intercooler and that will make all the differance. :D

How important if the ratio change, the vehicle is almost 100% offroad driving, mainly mud and sand as no rocks are around. I have some 33"s I can use on road

before i supercharged the 400, with 3.5 gears, i went from 33" to 35" and then to 38.5" with no dramas. ask mk patrol guy about what it takes to fit the tyres, he has got em on his dads gq lwb

when i get my swb import gq, if i havn't sold my 38.5" tsl sx's i will be running them on it. just let the torque drive you around. it might take a little longer to get upto 120km's, but who cares!

Dad's GQ has only a 3ish inch suspension lift and the 35s fit with a little bit of rubbing on the rear edge of the front and rear guards (rear not being a prob for you), 36s definitely need the guards cut otherwise the tyre actually jams against the panel work  not good. dunno about doing the diffs, my mates diesel shorty had 4.1s and drove ok on road and off, much easier than when it was petrol.

fitted 35s with 4" sus and 40mm body without any rub... just. 36s would require wheel arch mods to rear and maybe something done to the front. If you added the spacer to the radius arms to push the front axle forwards 12mm, you might get away without needing any front arch mods.

See pics of mine with the 35s all flexed up here...

How difficut is it to move the front axle forward - I would not mind doing it if reasonable feasible as the 33's still scrub with 1" body and 3" spring lift. Would also help of course with the 36's

the gearing is more important than the 36's... and its not cheap.

No use having huge tires and no power to turn them...

You also end up with no low range as you gear it up that high, that your low is now mid, and high is f u c k i n g crazy

If its nearly purely offroad, you would be well advised to do gearing first.

Moving the front diff forward isnt that hard, mine is now 4" forward, but thats with a linked front end. Yes gearing is very important re: as Bogged said.

Undo nuts, push forward, slide in spacers, do up nut. Drive away

its a trial and error thing on the size of the spacer, thats why you get people quoting different sizes.

Measured and made some today 12mm to be safe and have enough thread left for nut to lock. :D

When lifting suspension the wheels will be moved back as the front arms move through there ark, moving the arms forward 12mm will put the wheels back into there original position.

Will this assist in anything else like travel or is purely an exercise for fitting bigger rubber.
