I am thinking intot he future with my FJ40, Done most things except

Winch
Lockers

Which ones first? the dollar difference isn't the issue it will just be one or the other. Which one is better value?

If it is a winch, how big do I go? 8, 10 or 12?

Thinking electric, because if I am in trouble the odds are I won't to be relying on the engine. Carby and all that.

Go lockers first...makes driving so much better and you will rarely need a winch once you have them...
I have Arb air lockers front and rear and can go places now that I couldnt go before....they arent cheap but I am glad I have them fitted... :)

if you can only afford one at the moment get a winch no matter what situation you are in a winch will get you out (plus the right accessories)

lockers will get you into more trouble than out of more trouble

Screw the 'sensible' option

Get the lockers - you will wonder how you ever wheeled without them ;)

I had lockers before winch - and I have no regrets

Drive it - don't drag it! :finger:

Go the lockers first - drive in without them, reverse out with them. :P

Learn the capabilities of your vehicle, instead of tackling everything wrong and then giving up with "Bugger it, I'll winch it."

Just a personal opinion...

Winch

Lockers just get you further and deeper into the sh*t

Lockers no questions asked. And just wheel with other people who have winches.  You can always get a cheap handwinch for emergency's I mean how often do you plan on getting stuck??

[quote="BadLux"]Lockers no questions asked.

i think most with practical 4x4ing experience will agree you'd be mad not to get lockers first.........

if i go out on the weekend i got 4x4ing not winching....

granted my mates have saved my ass many times with winch but it would been ten 000 times that with many rollovers without my trusty locking friends..

lock em up

It depends.

If you like doing extreme off road stuff by yourself get a winch.

But lockers make stuff sooooooo much more fun!!!
Just travel with a mate.

Lockers . Helps leaf sprung rigs heaps when u run out of articulation. I have ARB Rear but will be getting front soon. I have a electric winch as well but I hardly use it now
Dont discount other types of winches as when your motor isn't running u
wont get anywhere on battery alone

R LOCKER -> WINCH -> FR LOCKER
winch will get me thru what front locker mightn't, esp by myself, ok so dragging is cheating and i'd rather have more chance of driving it with front locker, but i got mates with neither and it makes our days out SO much better
just my $0.02
stage 3 will happen this year though :D

cheers scottO

fuck the sensible option you'll have more fun with lockers

your out there to enjoy yourself not drag yourself around places u can do that anywhere just keep a hand winch handy

If it's a choice of a winch or 2 lockers, why don't you fit one locker and buy a good second hand winch. You can get a good warn 9000lb for the price of one locker. Then save up and get the other locker.... Just like scotto said :D

Go lockers. A winch can only drag you further into the shit but a mate can pull you out of it.

go lockers ... and get some recovery points ... rated hooks etc and bolt them on good and recovery equipment... and make sure u go wheeling with other people with lockers and good recovery points easier then winching!

i don't run a winch .. manage to nearly always get out of the shit .. unless broken

Lockers seem to have it over winches,

the ' I go out 4x4ing not winching' seems to state it the best though.

I like the rear locker -> winch -> front locker plan too.

Who has a winch and wants to be my best friend

I was faced with the same senario and went winch, I will never ever look back, so many tracks have needed it (not just me but twin locked cars), and the guys without winches relied on the guys with winches. Now thats all good occasionally but i know so many trips that have the statment attached - no winch no go
