Mpoderators please feel free to move or even delete this if you thinks it way off topic :oops:

My neighbour has a 1985 BMW 323 sedan and the current motor is fcuked... he has asked me if I could find out any info on the motor and a price for a replacement of the same motor or what other option of motors there is available....
Is anyone here familiar with the BMWs of this era and what engine can be swaped into them ? ? ?

I undertsand if i have no luck, but I give you guys a shot at it anyways :D

dunno much about beemers but a bloke in melbourne used to have a ford

302 windsor in one and have seen 308's as well. anything is possible ;)

I wouldn't put any real money into it, mate just bought an 1988 318i with a crinkled front quarter panel for $500,

I would sack it and get another goer

For example ......

BMW 323I 1981 RWD Silver, coupe 5sp manual, 163000kms, alloys, interior/dash only 3 yrs old, Safety Certificate, 08/05 rego. VGC $2500ono

BMW 323I, 1984, red with crome siding, runs great, looks great, safety cert, rego until 08/05, 5sp manual, CD player, new tints, new exhaust, clean engine, properly serviced, with receipts, pwr windows and steering, no rust, need to sell, make an offer -$2950 Miami

didnt think they worth worth much :? I personally would have thrown the car out about ten years ago :)

Maybe there best bet is to find one thats running real well even if it has body damage and just swapp al the good bits and make one good one out of two shitheaps :lol:

my sisters boyfrend had one of those BMW's with an SR20 turbo Nissan motor out of a 180 sx half cut and it fitted really well + a big front mount intercooler, it managed hi to mid 12's down the quarter
he just sold it for 15K (It won best european at the last fast 4's rotaries jamboree)

Was that the green one? Im pretty sure it was green. Was full on metalic paint anyway. Im hopless remembering colours.

A mate fitted one with a 350 chev and t5 5spd, did this thing hammer!
Saddle up tonto, its the not so loanrangie! . 98 TDI DISCO lightly modded with more to come.

I owned one with a realy hot 202 & Celica 5 speed . It was blue plated in Qld . Pretty easy to fit also.

Nissan CA18det, SR20det(147kw 2.0 - 200sx), FJ20. Toyota 4age, 4agze(120kw 1.6 supercharged)
If i was going to keep it i'd go with a light weight turbo jap four, good efficiency, heaps of power and hot up parts.
Wouldn't stuff the handling as much as an eight or commodore v6, which i couldn't really see doing the BMW justice technology wise.
