Is the battery dead or is it giving the illusion of being dead as the starter motor not turning over

Hi
Check your battery cables, most times they are too small from the factory (Its one of those things they do to save money.... Theirs!), and after a period of time the leads build up too much resistance and give the impression its something like the battery or starter motor. If left go too long it will be...
A good indication is if you try to bend the lead it feels a bit hard and easily holds any shape you desire.
It might pay to check with a multi meter anyway.
HTH
Cheers
