80 Series ratios question

Had a funny noise in my front end, and last weekend had a bolt thread appear through my diff centre. After removing the centre today, I found that all bar 1 crownwheel bolt had come loose and there is a fairly decent chip on the pinion. I am taking the diff back to the guy who rebuilt it for me about 18 months ago, but dont really expect much to happen in that respect.

Anyway, I am thinking it may be time for a ratio change. I know where I can get another front diff that is 4.55 (9 on the pinion, 41 on the crownwheel) I was wondering if doing the rear is a simple as buying a 9 tooth pinion and keeping the 41 tooth crownwheel. The rear is currently 10 - 41 also.

Also does anyone know who sells em and how much.

not that simple. crownwheel and pinion gears are lapped and sold as a matched set - even if the tooth count is the same the tooth angles are likely to be different for a different pinion.

any diff shop will be able to get the gears, or you can get them from any of the hardcore 4WD shops - big balls etc.

cheers
