Where the red dot is will be toob going across to the other side, and also diagonaly up to the top right corner near the drivers head, is this going to be alright or will i have to bolt it to the wheels wells for it to be strong??

make sure where it bolts to the floor there is at least 100x100 plate above and bellow

Above and bellow the Floor?? that floor thats in it is only Ply wood and marine carpet so ill just cut it up to incorporate the roll bar, 100x100 plate above and below the floor sounds right. but will that bend ive got in it weaken it i just dont wanna bolt through the wheel wells.

my cage has a bar across the center of the main hoop.
also i think the plates for the supports should be large but the top and bottom plates should be slightly different sizes, to help spread the load when the bar is put to use.
here's an pic of my main hoop. the pic is a bit blurred but you get the basic idea.

i dont like the bend infront of the wheel wells
especially if u r goin to put an x brace to it
looks like it would fail at that point

That was my main concern, but also i didnt want the rollbar to break through the wheel wells but yeah either way there is gunna be a weak point isnt there??

I agree with Redzook's comments. Do you also realise that you have the right hand side (drivers) rearwards brace bending in across the body to miss the fuel filler tube. This is fine as far as I (non engineer) can see, but aesthetically (good looks) have you considered doing the same to the left hand side in order to gain some symmetry. With only one bent in it will always look like you have rolled it and that side bent.

yes they are very good points thanks guys what about this to strenghten it up and i think if i do this i will loose the cross bar too keep the weight down then if i get into more Raddical style driving ill put one in.

just brace from the underside of the wheel well mounts back to the chassis. put some rubber between the to plates so that it allows a small amount of movement, cause the body will move. but if you roll the braces will then stop the body from breaking.

Barathrum, your cage looks great, you do it yourself?
What kind of pipe do you guys use, and how much is a decent pipe bender?

I was thinkin about using 2.5in diameter pipe with about 3mm thick side walls, is this going to be okay 2.5in is the largest our bender will bend.

WHOOOAAAA up.....WAY to big.
Will post photo of the cage I'm playing with at the moment, the basic cage is made from 40mm Nominal Bore (it actually is a little bit bigger, and in old school terms is 1 5/8" bore tube, which is the standard for competition cages), Medium wall (3mm) black tubing.
For a zook this is fine, especially if braced and well mounted.
Anything bigger really starts to look DUMB, and is more of a problem due to its bending radius and the total mass if the steel.

Thanks for your input ill take that into consideration, now ill go smaller diameter with the cross bar i think. Some PICS would be awsome from people i would like to see what designs people use and what looks good.
