Outer Limits 4x4 Board

As above, there are two lugs coming off the fan shroud, that over time rub on and wear small holes into the radiator . I don't know if this is the same on the petrols or the 3ltr, but it wouldn't hurt to check........luckily I was only on stockton when it happened, and you cant see where the leak is from coz it is covered up by the same lugs.

After I braised the radiator up, I glued some dense seal type foam, and trimed the lugs to suit. As cutting the lugs took of the flat bit, and it could cut into the foam, I found some old curtain rod ends and trimmed them up to fit to provide a flat edgs.

I can send / post pics if anyone wants to see, but I would suggest you fix it up next service.

Annyone else had this problem.....it is a '99 ute?????

Our tour co-ordinator stood up at our meeting and mentioned this the other night.. so yes, its happened before, the rad joint he went to has seen a few.

I just got back from nissan, and they say it is not uncommen, and you can cut the lus off, it wont cause flapping, but better off just taking the shroud off altogether

yea James cut off about 3mm, I think after all the overheating issues with GQ's and 4.2s the whole shrouds are critical, I wouldnt remove it.

So Nissan say its not uncommon, they are replacing or repairing ??

yeah, but that would mean the fan is not covered, and could be a prob when looking for probs, and leaning over tha engine etc.

I reckon cut trhe lugs down a bit and do what I did, then there eill be nop probs

The Fan shroud makes the fan draw air thru rad and not from side of fan, sounds like your informant has never worked on cooling systems.

No Probs, PM i you have troubles

Had the same happen in my td42t wagon 2000 mdl. Radiator bloke did repair and suggested sikaflex where lugs sit and allow to dry before reinstall. Was about 12mnths ago, has worked. Said is common problem particularly over corrugated roads.

that will prolly be easier than my fix....thanks for that
