Outer Limits 4x4 Board

ok a mate of mine is doing front and rear link setup with air shocks on his cruiser, but we are wondering whats the best to use for the link ends? its not gonna be a daily driver, but will see some road time on weekends and trips to the beach etc.

so i was thinking something like a heim joint on the axle end, with a standard rubber or poly bushing on the chassis end to dampen some of the vibs and harshness. this sound any good? what would be the best rubber bushes to use...standard patrol ones or what???

standard patrol rear upper trailing arm jobbies are good

I didnt think that hemi joints were legal on the road (could be wrong here). The standard rubber Nissan rear trailing arm bushes have plenty of designed in rotational flex and offer a quiet ride.

For heims, you can talk to ABT4x4, they are stocking aurora and endura rod ends.

I would also look at currie johnny joints or similar.

There are also guys on pirates selling similar joints for cheaper prices.
Rubber at the frame end and a heim, or jj at the other is not a bad idea.

You can also get threaded inserts for adapting to square or round tube.
There are heaps of options on joints and it is hard to say what will work best for you.

Heims can be approved as long as you have an insulating material between the heim and the bolt that passes through it.

The limiting factor with engineering and heim joints is the metal to metal contact which is not allowed. So if this is insulated then an engineer should be able to approve them regardless of location. Most DOT don't like them but the reality is that you can pull the actual strength values from thier catologue. This makes it much easier than saying "it stays alive in a 3t patrol - it must be ok for a 2t hilux"
