I had to replace my winch cable as it was trashed (long story) anyway ARB lists 30 mtr x 8mm for a Warn 9000lb at $313
I found a place near my work - Keble's Trading, Unit 10/41 Stephen Rd Dandenong 9794 5570 that supplies all sorts of interesting stuff, straps, winches, hooks, eyelets, high lifts, recovery gear etc.
Anyway how about $82 + GST for 30mtr x 8mm of steel winch cable and that included the lug for the drum mount and the loop for the clevis hook.
Their prices on other stuff seem very reasonable as well, shows you how much ARB mark stuff up eh.....................

I think the ARB cable is aircraft grade cable - I will have to go through the past copy of 4wd Monthly - this may account for the higher price? :fadein:

Yep frank that is correct. ARB make heeps on their cables

My spare cable I got for $110 about 2 years ago and that included shipping to Albury. Yes it is aircraft grade cable, just like ARB sell.

Now here is food for thought. The cable that is still on my winch is the origanal that it came with. I have had the winch for about 4 and a half years now. So for those of you that are plasma mad. Is it worth me spending the big dollars and going for rope

If you are the winch man and have to run up steep embankments and rocky faces then yes it is worth it, the rope can be thrown up to a location making it easier, quicker and safer to get up yourself, also from a safety perspective if it goes bang less chance of damage to vehicle or people. Mind you l still run cable on my winch, but for comp work (not rock crawling) l believe it can't be beaten.

Yes it is the same grade ARB use coz it had a picture of an aeroplane on the side of the drum that the cable was on.
And because the dude told me so..............................

Fro those Sydneysiders looking for cheap winch cable, LB Wire Ropes at Girraween have pretty good prices. I think I paid $75 for 30m of 8mm cable, which included the fittings on both ends.

I have seen plasma more then once tangle when people have tried to throw it up a bank. Then they have spent the next couple of mins fixing it up. Wire rope doesn`t tangle. Yes it is heavier but that doesn`t make up for the extra cost of plasma (in my mind anyway)

Also as I have said I have been using my cable for over 4 years and have not yet had any problems with it. If I had plasma I think I would have broken it a few times by now on sharp rocks. So for me plasma just isn`t worth the extra cost.
