Having not had any experience with split rims before, how is the best way of getting the split ring off to get the tyre off
Need to sandbalst the rims and respray them.

You can get the ring off with tyre leavers
1 Get one tyre leaver place beteen the split in the ring and push down
untill ring separates` You should see a hole in one of the rings

2 With the first tyre leaver still holding down place the second tyre leaver
in the hole and leaver the ring out off the rim .Than use the first leaver
between the tyre and ring to help it off .

3 This is where bead breakers are a big help to remove the bond between tyre and rim.

But I have heard of people driving a car over the tyre to break the bead.

Remove the valve before starting any work

Once you break the bead the rim will lift out

the other trick is to use a piston type car jack between the tow bar and the tyre and wind it up. its a bit easier than trying to mount the bastard with your truck

Tried tyre levers but to no avail. Know what you mean by hard work. Tyre shop can do it. Broke one end off a tyre lever trying...

I use my high lift jack to break the bead, lay the wheel down and under the bull bar stick the foot of the jack on the bead and crank her up piece of piss, I use a couple of long hd screw drivers, stand the wheel up with the split on top, about a 1" or so to the right of the split there is a slot in the ring jam ya driver or lever in there and lever the ring out and work your way around the rim, putting it back is easier just like circular clip. oh it takes about 2 stubbies (15min.) to do the job......
