I am gunna do the same.
But I'll probably steal one from another car from the wreckers, and adapt it. If you want to make one, I'd imagine any form of piping you are familiar with -> pvc or stainless. I just figured it would be easier to get a nice looking fit with a premade snorkal, just find one that suits.
You are just looking for a water tight seal from the snorkel to the airbox with least amount of air restriction.
I am going to modify my airbox (should not really need much modifying).
Just make sure your electrics are good/water tight, no use having a snorkal if your electrics cut out.

Cant find the pix, but I built one for a chaps GQ quite a few years back using 3" exhaust pipe and off shelf bends cut to length.
It followed same lines as Safari one, but went straight thru guard in line with pipe inside to aircleaner.
Fitted a safari (Donaldsons) ram to top.
Powder coated black. Was on his vehicle for 6 years in Noosa before he traded. Still looked OK.

If you have seen pics of shrek and birdys GQ utes. Not sure on the wall thickness. But I think theres are just 4" S/S exhaust tube, which has been polised. And for bends they just used rubber elbows and decent claps. Seems to work well for these guys and they are for ever hitting tress and stuff (Andrew in Shrek mainly).
Dont see why you couldn't do the same thing in 3". Could even just use normal exaust tube. Buy the elbows from the exhaust shop weld it all up and get the lot powder coated.
