Tyre Diametre

Ill cut to the question, why big rubber?
All i can think of is the bigger the rubber the more clearance the diff has, other than that i dont see the point in getting huge rubber, can someone fill me in?
The reason i am asking is i am considering suspension options. Currently i am running 33" rubber and i am quite happy with them. I was thinking later on down the track i might run 35" rubber, so i am wondering if the extra 2" of diametre (which only translates to 1" extra diff clearance) is worth it? I would rather go out with spacers than raise the suspension to fit the 35's, so i am thinking of keeping the suspension height as it is (pretty much stock), keep running 33" and just get more travel in the suspension.
The rig is a ln106 lux, so i will probably go the ifs rears in the rear and stock rears upfront route, which i believe will move the front axle forward an inch or so? (which would be great, 2" forwards would be ideal as the tyres scrape on the back of the wheel arch full flex) Is there any need for extended shackles with with this option? I believe it will give me about 2" of lift? This i can live with but dont really want to go any higher in order to keep the COG as low as possible.
Any thoughts or suggestion will be great.
