Hey peoples, I know of four people here in the Hunter that have blown up their 2.8 hiluxes, apparenly the cranks failed, is this a problem with only certain models of that motor, all vehicles where well maintained, one friend likes the LUX but can't afford the trouble. Any info greatley apreciated? :?:

They have to have oil changed every 5000kms or they go bang.
If they only do low km trips I`d change them more often, these are a motor that likes long trips because they clag up quickly if only doing small runs all the time. They are common for doing this at around 200,000kms if they have only been doing small runs.

Never ever try and run them to 10,000kms between oil changes. I have never heard of anybody getting away with it without the motor going bang before 150,000kms.

The 2.8 I sold to high n mighty had 197000kms on it and was still going strong as, it had done mainly highway kms (50+ thousand a year) and had oil changes EVERY 5000kms without fail, I would be more surprised then anybody if it doesn`t go for another 200,000kms if he looks after it like I used to.

Then you guys probably don't want to know that my 2.8 has done 453000kms !!

Guess it says something for good maintenance.

I was getting worried until I saw this last part,

It's now only just clicked the 200,000, lmao.

I service my vehicles more than anyone I know etc etc.

The one that blew up on me was 4500kms old and failed because an oil squirter wasn't doing its job and seized a cylinder(bad engine building).

My previous engine was on 270,000 with a little tappet noise, its a long story to why it got replaced but basicallyy it was at 270,000 with no problems ;)

My 2.8 is on 396,000 and ive owned it since 305,000. and i have RELIGIOULSY changed oil myself every 5,000. The guy who owned it before me had it done by a diesel workshop every 5,000 also. (he had all the receipts to prove it).........oh yeah its still going strong

I got mine at 240k's and it's done 260k's at the moment. It had a a safari turbo put on by cooma deisel at 150k's by the owner before me who changed the oil every 5000k's. I think the headgaskets gone but it still runs alright and i'm broke so i'm not gonna bother fixing it yet. I can tell because theres bubbles in the radiator.
