What system do you have now? Standard?

I had a 2 1/4" system with a cheap glasspak muffler on my 22R hilux which extended the rev range, and brought the torque and power up higher in the rev range. This meant it drove more like a car and less like a truck. Only gained marginal power and torque was probably the same.

i have done the same thing, fuel consumption got even worse, something to think about anyway.

I got extractors to straight through muffler under cab and end of pipe at back of cab, very short system.

Just till i know what im doing with tthe tray though then it will be lengthened agani due to noise levels.

I have a 22R in a dual cab hilux. I changed the exhaust to a set of extractors, a 2 1/4" pipe and two sports flow type mufflers. It seemd to have slightly more power (at the time I was running 31"s) and fuel economy improved slightly in the vicinity of 5-10%. I then fitted an Aitec snorkle which negated the power and economy gains.

You need to look at what extractors you get.

Just because you get them doesn't mean you will gain power. I have seen this time and time again on cars where people have got extractors and actually lost power...

But yea, I would think that more than 2" exhaust (mandrel bent) would be too much for a reasonably small naturally aspirated engine.
