Just wondering if anyone can tell me what suspension set ups the average bloke is running for say the outback challange..... Peoples idea's

I'm running 6in lift dobinson springs with 80 series landcruiser shocks. I've raised my rear lower shock mounts and welded in locating cones on the underside of the rear spring hats. I've put in bumpstop extensions on the front and I've also locked the rear springs to the axel cause the shockie is longer than the springs. This alows the vehicle to sit at the 6in above standard lift but lets the axel drop down past the intended length of the spring for extra travel. Still fairly stable at high speed and on the highway.

probly 4in lift +2in bl they dont like to go too tall due to speed they corner at.best to keep cog as low as possible.

Most of the guys with GU's don't do a body lift. Mine is really stable with a 6in over standard lift. The main reason people do body lifts is to fit bigger tyres but a GU with a 4in lift will fit 35-36in tyres without cutting. I've lifted mine to 6in to get better angles on approach, departure and especially ramp over. That is my opinion only. Get the info on what has worked for people and make a wheeling diary. ie. what settings you had for different conditions. such as tyre pressures and what effect it had what springs and shocks you used especially if you have adjustable shocks. You should be able to get some of this info from some of the more organised people on this forum. I'm not one of them though just starting to make my diary now.

Actually, I just wanted to know what people run in the outback challange as I have'nt been to one and someone was trying to tell me some crap the other day so I thought I'd ask. When I was running 35's on a four inch lift, I was still rubbing with a 3" body lift, that was max artic I guess.

Never run Outback - but i I were - I'd be doinga LOT of cutting before I put any body lift in letalone 3-4"

a lot of those guys run bodylifts but max of about 2in

5" lift 2" body lift

and i've cut the guards heaps ... should be able to fit 40's in i reckon hahaha

I think that most of the Range Rovers (which have won most of the outback challenges) run a 2in body lift and a 2in spring lift - maybe even less spring.

The reason why a body lift works so well is it gives you the tyre clearance without mucking up the suspension geometry or raising the COG excessively high.

In an event like the OBC how important is wheel travel compared to high speed stability?

The amount of lift required would have to be dictated by the maximum tyre size wouldn't it? ie buy the biggest tyres that you are allowed to run and build the car around that.
