Hi all, This is my Virgin Topic so be Gentle.
I have a "00" GU 4.2D and am having intermittent Ignition Problems. It only seems to play up after I have washed the Engine Bay ( Low Pressure only ). I have full Dash Lights, however the Engine will not Crank when the Key is turned. I think the magnetic Switch on the Starter is working and I also can hear a solenoid up on the R/H Inner Guard. Battery, terminals, fuses ect all fine. Had not played up for weeks and after a wash yesterday afternoon it bailed me up Last Night and again this morning. After sitting for a while it starts (not long enought for anything to dry) Any ideas where to start ?
Thanks in Advance
Craig

washing may be onlu coincidental, check your battery, there may be enough charge to opporate the soliniod, but not turn the starter

So its not really ignition but starting probs?
Diesel..
For starters Remove and clean all battery terminals and connections.
Check same on starter motor and also earth cable to frame and engine.
Undo and refit same.
Also if it still does it try jump starting to rule out you batt being intermittant.

If it doesent like being jump started either. Might be earth leads mine did this after I put new ones on and got grit between the eyes on the cable.
I also had a wire on the + terminal. That got left of when the batt was removed. Ifound that this wire had tobe powered. I was able to jump start the car and it would work fine. Until I tried to restart the next time. Also it wouldnt roll start either.

Thanks for the suggestions guy's. I have cleaned the terminals on the battery but had not yet checked the Started Cables. Will do this tonight. I might try to get the battery Load tested, however it seems fine ( I have jump started others recently and when the Starter runs it starts as per normal with no excessive or slow cranking ect. ). I will also check the earth straps for corrosion ect. Just a very annoying problem.
Thanks again.
