Rear Disconnect & lt230

Are there any other tcases around (not atlas) that can perform the rear disconnect like the lt230?

if not, what possible gearbox's can the lt230 be adapted to run behind? and how much drama would it be, as fabricating spares would become a pita

If you want, when I was looking for a t-case for my project the LT230 leads it self well to adaption, I was originaly going to use a T700r-4 auto to LT230 in my lux, but as I was running out of $'s I decided to use what I had.

When the adaptor is made proberly, with properly splined and heat treated output shafts / couplers you should never have a problem.

Hey bubs I'd be keen for something like that... what about lt230 behind R series box or A3## auto?

I know about the adaptor, It would have be easy to make that adaptor as my A340 to R1FA t-case adaptor I made

Is there a call for such an adaptor :?

Slosh, yes, very easy, get me an LT230 and I can make the adaptor I have enough A340E autos to work from :cool:

hmmm, turbo700 to to lt230 sounds good. gives plenty of options

You will end up with an adapter that is over 5" long to achieve this and you will still have front drive shaft issues unless you run a Centre bearing on the front shaft. The pan on the T700 is realy wide and if you were to mount the LT230 directly behind it and make a straight line forward of the front output it will hit the pan by about 1/4 of the Tailshaft. This is the main reason a kit is not generaly Available. There are places that have made kits but i dont beleive the demand has been there in the past for more to be made. Having said this we are working on an adapter at the moment and as long as the first works out we will then look at making more. Depending on wether we make them In House or shop the work out will make the difference on if we will be able to supply them to the General Public. We are very busy without having to also make these to Order.

TH700 + LT230 = 10.16-1
TH400 + LT230 = 8.23-1
Aw430 + LT230 = 9.3-1
TH400 +$ Atlas 4-1 = 9.92-1
TH350 +$ Atlas 4-1 = 10.08-1

A T700 to R1FA t-case adaptor is approx 6" long when i spoke to marks, is the front drop closer to the centre line of the vehicle than that of the Hilux R1FA

Wendle the only one i have here is in my rangie and im not laying under it tonight to measure :D

I will try and get a measurment off one at work tomorrow.

Only Just but its still enough to Cause dramas. Even in a hilux the front shaft has pan clearence problems when running the Hilux Tcase.

Basicaly anything with a ZF Auto has a 1.22 transfer. Discos and Rangies. The 1.22 is the most common.

Wouldn't you be able to do front digs with other full time 4wd t/cases that have manual centre diff lock? Not that I have much knowledge of non-rover stuff.

Exactly what I was thinking - though the T-case would need to have a handbrake mounted on the rear output and be strong enough to hold up to the abuse.

Absolutly. Any T case with a manually activated centre diff lock has the capability of Front Digging. As long as the hand brake works well. Wether the other Transfers can handle it for long i dont know. The LT230s seam to be coping well so far. I have done a few good FWD Burns as well.

Don't forget guys, rear disconnect is available for hilux transfers. I have one on the way ;) If you are thinking the lux transfer won't be strong enough for you then this doesn't apply. :?

Do you expect to be spoonfed - plenty of info in the rover section on here and pirate.

You can buy a kit from Ashcroft transmissions in the UK or do the mod yourself by welding the centre diff and making a support bearing for the front output.

Of course if you do this mod then you can no longer do front digs.

The L stands for Leyland, T stands for Transmission and 230 is centre distance in mm (for transfer case between the input and output shaft, for gearboxes such as the LT77, LT85 and LT95 between main and layshaft).
