35" Mongrel......not to be?

Reponse from Motorway, asked if they are ever going to produce a 35" Mongrel..........
Anyway here's the email:
Paul
Â
Thank you for your enquiry into Motorway Tyres.
Â
It is unlikely that we will ever produce a 35" Mongrel, as the
casing availaiblity is limited. In a 16" we do produce a
285/75R16 (34x11.50R16) size.
Â
If you require any further information, please let me know.

would a 285/75R16 work on a stock landcruiser split rim? i have never dealt with 16 inch rims before.

they did make a few 35's, but couldn't get enough cases to use.

i dont think so, someone correct me if im wrong, but i believe that a 285/75 is equvalant to a 33x12.5", and a 7.50:16 only has a rim size of 16x6, in which case you cant run a 12.5" tyre on a 6" rim, you'd need a 16x8" rim

Me thinks you need 8" rim, anything smaller would be too narrow I think...I certainly could be wrong though!
35" Mongrel......now theres a thought, best i've ever done is 4.5" Mongrel

thanks guys, i honestly don't understand the whole metric tire size thing. didn't 80 series or something come stock with a 16x 8 inch wheel? looking for a cheap wheel option so i can run some of these 34ish inch mongrells (saw em on a patrol ute the other day)

hey, they should do a 35!!1
i had early motorway muddies on my old zook and they rocked!
if they made 35s, i would give them some cases for 2 freshies.
or better yet, get them onto some 38 inch swamper rip offs!

If you can find any gu rims they are 16x8 .Nissan rims will fit toyo but toyo won't fit nissan.

I used to do a lot of work at a tire retreading company, and looked at getting my own play tire retreads done, was going to make my own tread using M/T Pattern with bobcat side lugs, but apparently most 4x4 tyre rubber fails if recooked. A set of 9.00 truck tyres would be the go, but rare as hens teeth. If I had 22" rims the selection was endless

Not sure about the 80 series, but the 100 series I am pretty sure cam stock with 16x8's, so too did the GU Patrol (except DX?). My mate has a 100 series and he's got a set of those steel crusier rims and theyre 16x8.

It wasn't just the lack of quantity of cases but also the lack of quality. The Motorway team are very choosey about the cases they start with...which is a very good thing.
I agree that the Mongrel is a fantastic tread but I am still surprised why people pay that much for a 33 when the Silverstone Sport retails for only around $20 to $40 more.
Ok that does add up when buying 4 tyres but we are talking brand new compared to monoform/retread. I think it's worth it.
Re the rim sizes... I have run my Silverstones at low pressures and in five years have never popped a bead. I do run tubes but without beadlocks. I have found that a 16x7 actually holds the bead tighter and draws the bead inward more. It is a case of personal preference but for me this protects the bead and sidewall more and exposes the shoulder lugs and side biters.

100 series is 5 stud axle though.
don't know about teh 16 inch rims, but 15 inch patrol rims are backspaced wrong to run on a 40.

don't alot of guys on here run the Toyata offset rims on their Nissans??? I thought they were offset OUTWARDS???

Not sure, I've got GU 16x8 rims and they rub on the control arms so not offsett enough for the GQ.

Doing the sums on a nominal 285/75-16 you end up with a 33x11.2 - over an inch narrower than the 33x12.5-15. Most 285/75s are recommended for an 8" wide rim as a minimum - although ProComp rate some of theirs down to a 7".
Cheers,
Scott

How much are the Silverstones going for? $240 fitted a corner?

Yeah $240 a corner is about right...if you shop around you may get a better deal but that is the norm. Where are you based?

When I brought my Monoform M/T's there was no other M/T's for round $150 each, only tires in this price bracket were 10R15 A/T's.

Go the mongrels! mates got 33's on FJ40 and they grip like no tommorow. next tyres i get might be the 34's. for a $200 a corner for large aggressive tyres you cant go wrong! mate only needs to lower to about 20psi to bulge the buggers out and they work really well without ever popping a bead.

...$220 from Tempe tyres in Sydney.
btw, how do you rate these MT117s on and offroad? Anything you dont like about 'em?
..and yes.. 16x8 6 stud GXL steel rims on a 95 T/LC

The centre lug on the MT117 and the MT117 Sports can be an issue on wet rock and roots, other than that they are the best traction you can buy for that kind of money in a new tyre. We regularly run them at 17/18 PSI on an 80 with no bead locks and no problems. They last longer than other extreme tyres because they are a steel belted rag radial and they are whisper quiet on the HWY compared to a mud terrain.
The Motorway MT is a mud terrain tyre and should be classed with other MT tyres. The Silverstones and the Mongrel are an extreme style tyre.
$220 is a good price.

here is more, I asked the question of getting 35's made on request and price on 34's.
Paul,
Unfortunately we don't have a mould big enough to produce a Mongrel pattern
on your 35" casings.
Depending on your location and the freight associated with getting tyres to
your nearest dealer you would expect to pay about $230.00 per tyre.

The centre hole of the rim is a couple of mm larger for the Nissan. That is the yota wont fit. Pitty as the yota backset/offset is much greater (looks like a couple of inches).

The 80's did come with 16x8's and i think they are a slightly bigger offset than the GU rims
