Ok guys this is a weird one. I currently have an 89 hilux sc originally a 2.8d that has been fitted with a 253 on straight lpg to get past emisssions regs.(motor is out of a HJ). Its all engineered and rego'd but i have got the shits with gas range off road so i would like to convert to petrol. Does any one have any idea on any regs ect that might help me get this through? I can register with a late model 308 but has to be reengineered.(ARRRAGH!) and i would like to keep the 253 as it runs sweet on the road. I know im banging my head against a wall but any ideas much appreciated.
Cheers Matt

A bigger LPG tank or a second one will be your best bet.

would go efi but its the numbers on the block thats the prob. already running two tanks only get around 440k's to a load. 3.6 kms a litre. pretty shit hey. does any one have tanks underneath their trucks if so where? mine are in the tray. need better fuel econmy though
Thanx guys

Is the lpg system set up and tuned properly?
Set up right lpg should only use a smidge more fuel than petrol injection, and its cheaper.
I would keep the lpg personally.
Are the tanks on a common mount or seperate? If you move them you will need to get that re-engineered as well.

Yeah, when was the last good tune up, i have never played with LPG, but the old mans work vehicles have ended up having better economy than petrol when setup well...
Just a thought...

My mate has a 220 litre gas tank from a truck under the tray, behind the cab. The tray is pretty high but suits off road/competition. He runs a 350 chev and gets about 800kms from the tank of gas. Gas is better off road as it doesn't care what angle it runs at.
253

i spoke to an engineer about converting an hz holden engine to efi and he said that as long as all the pollution gear was there and all the standard stuff was used ie if using vn commodore stuff use all the factory efi and pollution gear he had no dramas but that was 308.
hope this helps
was not concerned about engine numbers.

lpg is better mate, petrol v8s cost lots to run, and gas burns cleaner, is cheaper and doesnt stall on angles.....
i have a 253 in a lux, on gas with a 130l tank and i get approx 400km from that, so either your two tanks are small or you need a tune bad...wat is your total L storage for two tanks???
cheers batesy

the injection of a late model 304 will fit on a 253 if you decided to inject it

you'll need injection heads from VN or later to make the intake manifold fit. by the time you do that you might as well put an injectad 304 in it
