What do you mean you had it loose for a day?? What did you do?
Its not worth your life if youve fiddled and buggered it.

Seat belts are designed to work in a certain plane, if you pull it out and check it it should have a pair of numbers, ie 90/90 , 60/90 , 89/90.
The second number is the plane the belt is in accross the car, ie vertical,
the first number is the plane fore and aft. If you don't get the planes right the belt will be extra sensitive, both webbing and vehicle.
Otherwise Ripco sell them over here for about $100nz.

nah, i didnt play with it, i should explain better. its for the passenger side in a GU patrol. i had to unbolt it to get the plastic "flashing" off......anyway, i drove down to the shops while it was off and now the thing has retracted and wont let go......is it a pretensioner or something?

Give it some more slack and let roll up whilst mounted correctly, vertical,
then reel it out once it has unlocked. You will get the extra slack by unbolting the top mount.

if all else fails... remove assembly from car. align it vertically and horizonally as best you can (like to a table or a wall). give it a little tap with a hammer. it should free up.
