G'day guys,
hoping to setup a dual battery over the weekend and add some extra spotties to that over time.
Any tips or hints, in terms of wiring setups, equipment needed and rules of thumb? (A suggestion on WHERE to put the extra battery would be a great starting point).

Yes if you only invest in one extinguisher make it the biggest friggin one you can find
Trust me I know....................
Stay away from a certain brand of dual battery controller
The mechanical solenoid type is the most reliable like the ARB one (I have that now).

The import diesels have 2 batteries, have a look under the hood of one of those.

Here are a few pics of my old 1992 NH pajero duel battery set up.
Used a hella 60a relay to isolate the secondary from the main when engine off. Basically had the earth side of the relay going to the start wire on the starter motor (powered when cranking and earth when not cranking) and the other side of the relay coil connected to the power to the wipers (only powered when engine running) so in effect when engine running it had a power and earth to pull relay closed. In crank it saw power on both sides of relay so it couldn't try and pull current through contacts. If interested I can sketch a wiring diagram of this setup. Worked well for over a year until I sold the car. Will be setting up my duel batteries in my Nissan the same way.
