More Axle Wrap??

Post by V6XtraHilux »

Hey,
I got an Xtra Cab Hilux (V6) with standard leaf springs out back.

I wanna lift the springs by using steel blocks similar to Snake Racings lift blocks, but have read that by using these lift blocks, it increases the likelyhood of axle wrap. Anybody know anything about this?

Im not going to remove any of the standard leaves, just put in the blocks (new Ubolts and longer brake lines obviously) but nothing to the suspension, apart from maybe extended shackles down the track later.

Will this whole new setup cause problems?

Thanks.

Axle wrap will increase, but depending on how hard you wheel will make the difference as to whether it will cause long term or short term damage.

You may notice a small vibe increase (depending if the block has a taper to correct the pinion angle - whether you need it or not? as you are keeping the standard springs - some measurements will be the only way to see if the taper is needed) the vibe may only show up on accell and decell, but not during general driving.

A quick search on driveshaft vibrations will also net some more info.

Basically, it puts the springs further away from the axle, so that the moment generated at the spring is greater, as it is acting at a greater radius.

track bar would be good, just to be sure.

thanks for all the input guys, have to think about it then!

mb u guys can answer another question......

in the mornings, when i reverse or drive the truck for a little bit, there is a shuddering, i suspected that perhaps the cluthplate was cold and was slipping a bit. mb its axle wrap??

i think it may also shudder driving forwards other times, not just the morning, but i thought that was my bad 1st gear starting technique??

any ideas??

thanks again
