After some info on getting a working tacho now I have a V8 in my GQ
Options I have heard about but have little info on:
1. Replace tacho with Nissan 4-cyl of some sort (would like to use existing dash layout)
2. Get some sort of converter circuit
3. Take it to someone who re-jigs them
4. out of ideas....
Anyone out there with experience with this?

They will be able to recalibrate your existing nissan tacho to the toy V8

Thanks bubs.
I phoned them and they quoted $130+tax which is not bad.
I would have to take my tacho out and get a new circuit board made up.
Unfortunately the face of the GQ tacho is lit from behind so the face cannot be changed to show a higher RPM.
I guess another option is to by a digital tacho from Dick Smith / Jaycar and mount it somehere (like behing the old tach - cut a hole in it)
Or by an aftermarket analogue tacho thats close in size to the orginal and squeeze it in wher the old one was.
Does anyone know of another Nissan tacho may fit in the GQ dash?

If you can find a guage cluster out of a RB30 GQ. They rev to 8000rpm (ok tacho goes that high).

I have fitted a V8 into my 1997 GQ shorty and had the tacho recalibrated so it now reads correct. Did not have to alter the panel or wiring at all

The guy who quoted me said the signal from the Toyota V8 was a different voltage (not just frequency) and thats why the board had to be modified.
The RB30 GQ sound like a good option. The RB30 may have a compatible signal.

I do know that the first VH45 to be done. At AUS4wd, they used it and got it working.
