80 series petrol 94
Makes a knocking sound from front when under high load.
No sound under low load 100km/hr or whatever.
Turning the wheel does not affect problem. ie does it while driving straight, not worse with wheel turned
Removed front driveshaft today and the noise went.
put it back on and it's there again.
My drive shaft has a double cardin joint and is totally brand new 6months old. So I didn't think this would be the prob. It also seems pretty tight.
Just wondering if maybe it could be a wheel bearing
Any sugestions would be great.

Doubt it's a wheel bearing as it would still be there even with the shaft off it, but have a look anyway and check for any brinelling on the outer race.
My bet is something in the front diff is broken, perhaps a tooth on one of the gears and the knocking is it skipping a tooth and hitting the next??
Otherwise I have nfi

Had air lockers fitted by ARB 12 months 8 months ago. They said that everything in there was in excellent condition.
Have not exactly pushed the vehicle really hard since. also the sound has started very soft and got louder gradually over last 12 months.
Thanks anyway. Probably worth taking diff cover off and having a look to make sure
Anyone else have sugestion.
In particular has anyone had a bearing go, what happend?

Is the car still fulltime 4wd. If so it's probably the front shaft.
Does it knock under load or under float ?

There is something amiss with your front shaft....do u stll run front swaybar?? if so it will probably have hit the driveshaft and put a dint in the slip yoke....now i would suggest you get a mate to rock the cruiser in gear while you sus out the uni's for movement...bet thats whats going on.

Found out that it is the drive shaft.
put friends drive shaft on and it drove fine.
Everything pointed to the driveshaft but I did not think this could have been the problem cause it's only 6 months old and the unis all seem fairly tight.

sounds more like the double cardin joint ...... do a comparison of the two driveshafts you have .
